HELP!! I need Ceasar Milan for a 10 wk old!! Lil Maddie is 10 weeks now. She is cute as can be, but don't let her looks fool you. I'm not kidding around when I say this little girl is straight up VICIOUS!! When you go to pick her up, she will just growl (sounding more like a killer scream) and bite in an attacking manner. If she could draw blood, she would. I hate to say it, but she is just mean most of the time. As most of you know, this little "sweetheart" was even hand raised with so much tender love and care. We are very gentle with her. We never played rough games with her. She used to play with her toys very puppy-like. Now she attacks them with anger and slams them all over and yells and barks at them. If I pick her up and she goes into a rage (yes, a rage) tap her in the nose and tell her no, but she just gets worse. Then I'll hold her close to my chest and gently pet her and kiss her and softly say "gentle" to her over and over again and she will calm down. Do you think she is an angry puppy?? I don't know why she would be and I don't know what else to do. |
She's not angry, she's just a baby doing what babies do. She will calm down when she gets older, but for now you have a wonderful highly motivated yorkie puppy. I would just continue to calm her when you pick her up. Also find a treat that she can't live without and start training her to sit and down. This does help with disciplinary problems. Good Luck and just enjoy her. She will be grown before you know it. |
She is going through a very impressionable age and does not have litter mates or mom to guide her. She needs some positive training where she learns to associate things like being picked up with GOOD things like yummy treats. Depending on her shots, it might not be too early for puppy class. If it is, consider one on one with a good positive trainer in the meantime. Every dime we've spent on Loki's trainer has been worth it, even when we can't really afford it. He has a very difficult personality. He tries to pick fights with the Dobermans at class (don't worry, they are sweet as can be and ignore him). Anyway, we have trained him from the start with a professional and I can say for sure that if we had not done that he would be an absolute monster and we'd be going out of our minds in frustration. Channel that energy and sign up for a puppy class and a professional evaluation. Good luck!! |
I agree with the training advice. So far, she's pretty smart with the potty part, so I don't think it would be too early to start with obedience. I am taking her to the vet today for more shots. I will ask him what he thinks about her attitude...lol. I'll also see if he has a trainer he recommends. When we went to visit Bugaboosmom (Mary) a couple of weeks ago, Lil Maddie made me out to be a complete liar. She was so sweet and nice. I think she was shy because the second she got back home, it was monster territories again. Oh well. I'll keep you updated on what my vet says. |
It kind of sounds like she is throwing a tantrum. She may need some more structure and decipline in her life. Finding a trainer is a good advice. |
My pup is 10 weeks too. She also seems to be overly aggressive. All day long she bites (hands, face, you name it) and attacks my feet and legs. I've tried holding her mouth closed which doesn't seem to bother her at all and doesn't stop the biting. I try ignoring her but she chases me down and goes for the feet. I try distracting her with toys, but she quickly loses interest and is back to biting me. :( . I try cuddling her giving kisses and talking baby talk; she seems better, but when I put her back on the floor she attacks again. I've always been consistant with her (I've stuck with redirection, seems to work best). I bought her from a pet store which I never planned to do. I wonder if she was treated poorly before I got her. That's why I had always planned to buy from a breeder, but when I went to the pet store for some fish food, I saw her and knew I had to have her :) . I love her more than anything. I'm taking her to an 8 week puppy class which starts in April, hopefully that will help. Also, she was doing well with going potty on her pads (for her fav treat of course) and recently she has been going wherever she wants. I have never been mean to her, I do not punish, only reward. Maybe I should be punishing? All I say is NO in a stern voice when she goes on the floor. I hope she isn't doing it on purpose, but I also don't like the thought of her being confused as to where to go potty. When I first got her a week ago she wasn't biting too much, it has only escalated and her biting hurts, she bites right through my thick slippers which I find I have to wear at all times because she goes even crazier for bare/socked feet oddly enough! Good luck, hope to hear that your pup is doing better soon. |
1 Attachment(s) Okay...back from the vet. Just like I thought, she was making me out to be a liar. All kissy, kissy and sweet. I was trying to explain to him the rages she goes into and he totally looked at me funny. As I'm saying all these things about what a bad girl she is, she's just sitting there (all 1.5 lbs of her) all cute with her little dress on. Unbelieveable....UNTIL he wanted to check her teeth. She growled at him and even bit his finger. Well, in case you all haven't seen her lately, here was the face of Vicious...that's her new nickname now. |
Oh Lil Maddie... You look sooo Cute in your dress! Bit the Vet? Naughty Girl! Maybe you need to come over again for another visit w/Auntie Mary. |

Absolutely!!! She is completely out of her mind! Remember I told you about the attitude...the one I was "lying about"...lol! Now you know!!...LOL! She is a total monster!! Poor Monkey has become sooooo needy now. Poor little guy. He lets Lil Maddie do whatever she wants with him and then he comes to bed with us. He has total satisfaction that he is our "big baby". Animals are sooooo much like children. |
Lil Maddie sounds like a True Yorkshire Terror! |
