Petsmart Training Classes? I had a friend who told me he and his fiance took their young yorkie to Petsmart for their training classes. I enrolled Jackson to start classes this week .. was wondering if anyone else has any experience with them?? Thanks so much! |
I took my beagle when she was 4 months. It was pretty good but the most important part is actually continuing with the training afterwards. I decided not to enroll winston because after taking emma through, we knew what to do...even though we didnt do it...second child thing. Its pretty good and I learned a lot and the socialization is priceless. Good luck! |
snickers is in week 5 of her puppy training class at petsmart and i thought it was great... they go over grooming, proper toys, dental care, socialization, and simple commands along w/advise of teething, biting, crate training, and potty training i would recommend it |
Thanks for the info .. it is greatly appreciated! |
I've thought about this for my boys. How many weeks is it for and what does it cost? Also, for those who have already gone through it...exactly what do they teach, just basic commands or more? |
The class I am taking Jacks to is Beginner Training .. it's an 8 week course and costs $99. It's basic commands .. there are other classes you can enroll in once you've taken this one .. I figure I'll see how this one goes first. |

We took lexi to petsmart training classes we loved it she was used as the demonstration dog most of the time so at graduation they asked her to go to the advanced class as a demonstration dog as well and we ended up not having to pay. We would highly recomend the classes. |

I'm thinking about taking Bella to this but wonder if she's needs to be fully housetrained first? I also want to take her to PetSmart just to mingle (and for me to purchase more spoilies!) but since she's not completely housetrained I'm afraid she'll pee! |

most of them do... they have cleanup stuff there specifically for that purpose so i wouldnt worry about it too much :) |

That's funny! I guess he wanted to feel welcome right away. |
That's what I thought .. hehe! |
We never took Lil Girl to any training classes but wanted to. She's almost 2 now, is it too late? |
Quick Update I took Jackson to his first class last night. I wasn't as wow'd by the trainer as I'd hoped to be but after working with him for the hour long class and a few 15 minute sessions last night and today .. he's got look and sit down. He's also listening a lot better. So they must know what their doing... Hope ya'll are having a great day! Lis |
I don't believe it is ever too late. For the most part they don't train the dog, they train you how to train the dog. Some dogs learn quicker than others. I guess that goes for the people too. |
:woof: I am also looking into training class for Rocko and coco |
Rosi is going to be 1 yr old and i signed her up for a beginner class starting next week ! |
Another option for you I realize not everyone has this option depending on your location and prices in your area, but we found a certified, master degreed, professional positive trainer that is actually closer to us than Petsmart and charges only a few dollars more per class. We are in the far west suburbs of Chicago, and there are a lot of trainers around here. We have been able to continue with classes far beyond what we could have done at Petsmart. We have really enjoyed it - it's a family activity! I know some of you have fun loving little cuddly Yorkies and you'll do fine with just a Petsmart class, but Loki has one of those independent, stubborn, "what's in it for me??" kind of personalities. He truly is a monster, a "terror", and doing training with him allows us to channel that so he has developed into a reasonably well behaved and polite dog. We were able to find out that he learns best if the right food is involved and he is so used to learning new things now that he can learn a new trick in an afternoon. And while tricks are fun, we've been able to learn how to develop a structured environment for him so that he knows what is expected of him and how to behave. When he has to guess, everything falls apart. We've had him a year now and he knows 50+ words and at least 20 "commands/tricks" We make sure he is always learning something, even if it's just how to behave at the playground around kids. It's so much fun! |
