Need help with my baby! We received our yorkie, Sir in November. His was 7 months. He was not really potty trained. We crated trained him. Sir goes to the bathroom outside but also in the house. When we take him outside he pee's so much that I am concerned. I asked another owner and she said "he's marking his territory but 7-8 times. It makes me concerned. He also leaks when new people come around and when he gets excited. Have any of you experienced this and if so, do you have any advice? |
Is Sir neutered? They may pee more when they are not neutered. If he is seven months, he may still be learning to hold his bladder and he can get excited and leak a little bit. When he does pee outside, give him a lot of praise and reinforce the fact that peeing outside is a good thing. Perhaps add a little treat too. Belly bands are also a tool you can use to help in the potty training process. Yorkies can be potty-trained, it just does take some time, after all, human babies may need a few years to learn how. Good luck with Sir! |
This is Mine He is probably marking his territory, however if his urinating habits change, then that is a sign that maybe he has a problem, but just running from spot to spot peeing a drop or two is perfectly normal. My three -- two females and a male will pee at least a dozen times when I take them out for thier afternoon walk. Down here on the farm we call it the "This is Mine" game. In the morning usually they pee just 'cause they need to, but during our walks, no twig, leaf, or weed is left unmarked. I have discovered with Peppy (unaltered male) that he controls the amount he uses -- two drops here, three there, Chattie is the same. In fact Chattie is a leg hiker, my sweet, precious little girl hikes her leg! Think of marking as a dog's "No Trespassing, Violators Will Be Prosecuted" sign. |
he is marking. ceeby is seven months old also and just this week found out he can lift his leg and peee and he is peeing on every thing in sight. Chain link fence, tall blades of grass, anything he can hike his leg at. When I put him outside, he goes in a dead run. never slowing down for anything except to lift his leg about ten times. |
