Litter box training....HELP!!!

I have a ten week old Yorkie that I've had for two weeks and I'm having the most frustrating time training her! The first week at home she was catching on really quick to the litter box and would every so often go on her own. Now all of the sudden she refuses to go and when I place her in there she tries biting me and starts growling and then jumps out. I know she had to go but she refuses. Any suggestions would be wonderful!

Hello! Sorry to hear abotu your frustration! Does your little one pee NEAR it? or just whereever she feels like it? Two weeks to training is not sure long and she may just be confused. I started training Oliver when I got him at 8 weeks and he caught on when I was able to watch him, but still messed on the floor when I wasn't watching. He did that for about a month and now he's all trained! One thing that i did that helped was confine him to a very small area when it was bed time or nap time. It consisted of his bed (a little crate), food bowl, and litter box. There was about two cubic feet of bare floor between those three things, so he didn't have very much to interest him in the middle of the night besides his food or potty. I think that little trick helped a lot. Soon, he was able (little by little) to get his barings down about the house and where his potty room was located.
About the biting and growling....
Are you starting to train her not to nip (but placing your hand loosely around her snout when she nips, like a muzzle?) You're little baby will HATE this and it keeps Oliver from nipping now, so maybe if she realizes her consequences of biting you she'll calm down.
I'm sorry you're having trouble. Maybe try crate training her. Leave her in her crate for awhile and then bring her straight to the litter box. If she jumps out or bites then put her right back in the crate for 5 or 15 more minutes and then try the litter box aga. Since you said she was catching on before, maybe it is just a matter of "attitude" at the time. I'm really not sure but I just want to let you knwo I'm SURE you're not in the same boat! Everyone has potty training problems and it'll get better!

I'm Gunners mom and we got him at 9 wks. I use potty pads. I keep two side by side in his room. When I'm at work that's where he goes. He is almost 6 mos. old now and goes to the door but I still keep the pads in his room for when we are away. I kept Gunner with me all the time when he was being trained. It is nerve racking at times but you have to keep an eye on them and learn their habits. We took him out at least every hour and maybe more depending on how he was acting. But it paid off. Consistency is the key.

Maybe she doesn't like the litter box? Is it clean each time? A 10 week old dog will not be trained in 2 weeks, she may not be reliably trained for months. You cannot expect that. They simply do not have the bladder control. The fact that she is biting you is strange. When she does go, where does she go? When Loki pees he likes to sniff around the yard for the right spot. When he poops he does a little waddle walk and he will squat in 3 places before finally picking a spot. He would never go in a single spot like that.

Thanks so much for the help! I actually realized that I was giving her too much space when I locked her up in the bathroom! I decided to put her in the laundry room where she only has room for her bed, food bowls and litter box and she now has no problems using the box! She forgets every once in a while and pees on the carpet but thats bc she can't yet completely control her bowels but things are getting better! :)
