Tricks!!!! Hiya eveyone I must show off!!!!!! I just cant believe how easy it is to teach yorkies new tricks (well most tricks) it took me 10mins to train maisy to sit :D (thats when we first got her she was 8 weeks) now she's 6 months old and i read a thread about teaching yorkies to roll over (havent done that one yet :jump28ib: ) But last night i thought i'd try maisy to lay and Wow it took 10mins  so i taught her to dance last night as well. Im so pleased i have been showing my children (their bord now :p ) but i just cant believe it. i'd love to know what tricks your furbabies can do? and maybe i can get maisy to do them as well :D :yorkiesar |
It s so much fun teaching new tricks Alfie can sit ,lie down, leave, touch his target stick and lay down and rolloverThey love when we we get the clicker out to do some training when we go out walking they will also stop at the side of the pavement (sidewalk) sit down and wait until told to cross the road. So the tricks are helpful for training practical things as well. |
Yeah now you say that i have been training maisy to sit when crossing the road. although that one was a little bit harder than the rest as it was cold on the floor and she didnt want to sit :D but we're getting there with that one. I think it's so much fun to do plus it's means your spending more time with them has well. I think its great!! Wheather they do tricks or not their fun to have around so much so i would like another :D |
awww..cute! Zoe knows how to sit, paw and get his toy but i haven't taught him anything else. i wish i can teach him how to "quiet" because he is a big barker. I can't believe the sound that comes out of that little body. |
I love teaching mine new things, but I think my most favorite is the one male who dances for me. I will say come on Bug dance for mommy and he goes nuts dancing...I love it... |
Im trying to teach mine to lay down.. how did you get them to lay down? im having problems with that because Chewy thinks im playing with him and attacks my hand when it comes near him. We are also working on biting. |
lexi know lots of tricks, but she doesnt know how to dance... how do i go about teaching her that? |
Wow, it seems like you guys are lucky with teaching your dog new tricks. My 10 month old knows how to sit. I have been trying to train him to give paw for like 2 weeks now with the clicker but he still doesn't do it? I guess he is a slow learner. |
Gina, Our son taught one of our dogs to dance many years ago. If I can remember right he would hold the treat up so she would get on her back paws then he would move the treat so that she would twirl around. Now if we say Dance our dog just does it without the treat. He also taught her how to play dead and give a high five. The dog isn't a Yorkie but not sure if that makes any difference. She is a cross between a pom/schnauzer. |
TRICKS! Oliver is sooo funny when I treach him new tricks- he gets almost as excited as I do. We'll work on the trick and as soon as he gets it right (within ten minutes) he goes CRAZY!! I give him the treat and he runs and runs and runs around the house then sit quietly in front of me to do it again. REPEAT! He's a crack up! He is 4 1/2 months old- he knows sit, stay, laydown, down, go potty, and paw (handshake) I'm trying to teach him rollover. He doesn't like going on his back too much though- Dancing is new my new target! Thanks for the tip!! :) :) |

Loki knows play dead and that always gets a big reaction from the crowd so he will randomly do it. It's like he knows it's the cutest and he gets a big treat for it so he will do it even if I ask for something BORING like a high five. I swear he's thinking "No no, I want to do this trick. This trick gets me food! Do I get food now? No? I'll do it again hold on. Ok now food??" :D Yorkies are so smart. |
How do you teach them to dance? |

If not food, your dog may be motivated by something else. Some dogs are obsessed with balls and will do anything to get you to throw the ball. You just have to find out what it is! We have also done classes where we've learned a LOT! But most of the tricks we've done at home. What we've learned in class is how to communicate with Loki, how to lure, positive training, etc. We love attending classes! |
Thanks for the help. I give him treats as well. I guess I just need to be patient. |
