I'm very upset and close to my limit! I have a big problem with my 4 months old Royce . His pee pee pad is in the kitchen , when I bring him there and say pee pee he will do ir . Otherwise when he is playing on the carpet, he will pee on the carpet . I cant' keep him gated in the kitchen all day since it's very small . Can you please hepl me here? Thanks :mad: |
When you see him going on your carpet .... immediately take him to the pee pad and tell him "tee tee here" ... when he does, reward him & "celebrate" the occasion! That's how we handled that with Toto and it didn't take her but a few times to realize that not only does she get a little treat, but gets a fun, verbal reward from us! ;) |

peeing on carpet Try gating him in the kitchen after he eats or drinks .Watch him until he does it alot of Praise and then a treat.Make a big deal of it...Good luck... |
He's still VERY YOUNG.....the whole process can take some yorkies a long time while others catch on very quick ....but dont lose your patience....Consistency and praise work far better than being upset....Many of us have been in your shoes..and it's just something we have to work hard at but it should happen for your little guy !! My oldest Chanel took under 2 weeks to totally train and Cheri was almost 10 MONTHS old by the time she 'got' it....Don't give up !! |
You CAN and should keep him gated in the kitchen unless you are monitoring every minute he is not there. Houstraining is very time consuming but the only way to have a well-trained pup. If you don't give him opportunities to fail and reward all positive steps it won't take as long. There is info on housetraing method we use on my website www.sylvanyorkies.com best of luck |
Good luck in your training of the puppy ,,Mini Will be 5 months old on the 3rd of mar.she is doing well but we can still have a accident now and again but for the most part she is doing well first thing I did to help was reduce her area then I took her to the pee pads every single time after she napped also knowthat when playing they get carried away with the fun and forget that pee ..so ya might have to take a time out for potty ,,Mini would go about half the time so like I said before Good luck ..and Much love to your puppy and Hugs to you ..its a tuff process but well worth the effert ..hang in there mom! |

You have to be trained 1st , before he can be trained. Never leave him unattended. Keep a watchful eye on him and when you can't, confine him. Training him to peepad is the same as training him to go outside. You are the one that is going to have to make the effort in the beginning and for several months to "take him out" (so to speak), before it clicks that the peepad is the ONLY place he is allowed to go. If you are consistent and persistent and never let up, he will get "it" by the time he is 6 months old, for sure! |
my eldest female got the idea of the peepad by the age of 2. I was losing my mind, she would on ocassion use the pad but she had secret spots. Even if you clean the area with detergent you have to use pet odor remover . I use Natures Miracle in my home and it helps.Its hard , i know, I have two puppies one that i recently added and he was already 5 months old when i got him and his old home was a cubical and he was kept litterally on his poop. My challenge is to teach him not to step on his messes, he even tries to sleep on the pad. which drives me nuts but he doesnt know any better because thats how he was kept. but keep your head up , its like potty training a toddler, they dont get it overnite just because the toilette is there. |

I tried the pee pad thing but Starr would go pee on the hardwood instead. It looks real great now BTW. I changed my whole potty training routine. Every two hour snow or rain I stood in the grass with her until she went. When she finally went she got a huge praise and a treat. Finally shes gotten it at 1yr...."I go I get treat". Starr learns by food. We still have a pad in the kitchen....hasn't been touched for mo, I guess i should throw it out. |

Sylvan, Redvett, and all these others have nailed it right on (they are wise beyond their years...which I'm gonna guess is 25 years old ;). If your puppy isn't directly under your supervision, Royce won't think anything of just goin where he wants to. It is very time consuming, but it does work. My puppy is about 6 months now, and pretty much 100% trained, but for the first few months I wasn't sure if he would ever get it. Whenever he wasn't in the bathroom with a pee pad, I was hovering right over him every second. It stressed me out at first, but after a while you will get the hang of it. Good luck! |

Thank you Thank you all of you for your valuable advice it was very helpful . In fact today I brought him to the pee peepad every half an hour and whenever I said pee pee he peed right away, and when he was not gated in the kitchen I kept a very close eye on him and not a single accident so far . But in terms of praising him I say things like good boy Royce etc for about 10 times, I pet him andgive him a cheerios is that enough ? Will he end up with time going to the pad by himself I keep o doing this consistently ? Thank you, :) |

Because you want to make sure that he is set up for success and that he has more successes than failures. If he does have an accident, and it is after the fact, ignor it. Just clean it up and go on. Don't say anything bad or negative, he won't know what you are mad about. But if you are catching him in the act, then you can pick him up, say no! and put him in the right place. Hopefully he will finish the job on the peepad so you can reward him. |
