Switching Training Methods??? Hi Everyone! First of all, Harley goes pee/poo outside and always has! He weighs 22 lbs. now but I've had him since he was a baby! Drake, on the other hand, has always went inside on the pee pads! He is over a year old and only weighs 4 lbs. Also, he is a "blue" yorkie, therefore, his coat is really thin and he gets cold very easily, which is why I decided to do the pee pads! I guess after watching Harley when we're outside, he decided that he was going to try that leg hiking approach (he was neutered at a VERY young age, I might add, so don't let anyone tell you they won't hike their leg....they DO....lol)! Anyway, he LOVES to be a "big boy" and go outside to pee! He doesn't let me know when he NEEDS to go, but he will go if I take him out there! My question is....do you think it will be easy to make the transition and how should I go about doing it exactly? You're probably wondering why....well, it's almost as if he doesn't pay attention to the pads...it's like he just thinks he can go in the house, if that makes sense! I have 5 pee pads throughout my house, which is just an average 3 bedroom home, and I have to put the pads where he tends to pee! He did SO well when he was young but the last few months it's like I have to cater to his bathroom needs, instead of him just going to the pad! I'm so confused and not sure what to do....HELP PLEASE!!!! |
I'm in debate too! I'm going through trying to decide what to do still. My last yorkie was outdoor trained right away and very good at it. The problem is...sometimes it gets SO cold here for these little guys. My friend have had problems with pee pads but others I've talked to do well with it. I bought the Wiz Dog hoping I could keep it in one place near the door and it is different then a carpet. However, if I travel...it is not the most convient thing to take with you. And I will be traveling a lot with my dog. I thought that when I was home I wanted to train him to ask to go out like my other dog and when Iw as gone leave down the Wiz Dog. I'm still going back and forth on this. Usually he would not be left alone too long...however...there are those once in a while instances where I could be gone 8-10hrs. Very rare but possible. My other dog could hold it forever but I dont' like asking them to do that. Would I want to hold it that long? If I train him on the Wiz Dog...it won't be an issue. I don't have to rush home. If I don't use the Wiz dog, I will eithe rhave to leave him with someone to watch or rush home on those rare instances. Hmmm.... suzie |
