Training Up Dixie Doll I am having a hellacious time trying to potty train my new baby Dixie. She will be eleven weeks old on Saturday and I know she is probably too young to understand but this baby doesn't have a clue. I guess I am spoiled because Ceeby had been paper trained by the breeder. Dixie's brreder had made no attempt. she told me that she was going to "start' training her if i didn't buy her. She pees and poops everywhere. I watch her as I am in the room with them almost all day. it's where my computer is. I see her, pick her up and set her on the pad and she forgets about it and waddles right off and pees somewhere else. Any suggestions? I have five dogs in the house and I have never had this problem training any of them. Thank goodness, my carpet is soon coming up. |
There is stuff you can get from Petsmart that you put on the peepad and it encourages them to go there. I forget what it was called but it worked with Jewels. I never could get Chachi to go on the pads though and gave up and outdoor trained them both. |

Do you have the pee pads with the pheremones in them? |
I have a Dixie too! :D When you catch her starting to circle and before she actually squats, I would put her on the pad and keep putting her back on the pad if she wanders off of it all the while saying your cue word that you use for potty until she does go potty then keep saying the cue word as she is going potty and praise her. If you are really consistant she should have the hang of it within a week or two. Also, keep her on a consistant feeding and pottying schedule. Keep her crated when you can't watch her. My Dixie is three years old and she was trained to use a doggy door, which I don't have, so we have had some potty issues. I am consistant with her and take her out every three hours or so. I did notice that since I was free feeding her, because I wanted her to gain some weight, that she had more accidents than when I started scheduling her meals. Hope this helps you! Good Luck! |
I put about four puddle pads down and set my X-pen on top of them and when Dinkey started looking like he needed to potty I put him in the pen until he went. He got the message fast. He still sometimes has an accident and misses the puddle pad by about 2 or 3 inches......BUY at least he's trying. When I couldn't watch him he had on his bellyband. Good Luck! Don't give up ~Hang in there! She's a baby.......... |
