Great hints for training but need adult dog help
 
I've recently come upon this site and it looks like a great way to talk about yorkies. I have recently adopted a 3-year-old male yorkie, who was supposed to have been housebroken. However, he is going all over the place and poops whereever. Most of the tips I have read about are for puppies...do the same tips apply to older dogs. I know they probably have their own set ways and I probably need to re-train. I don't use a crate or puppy pads, although have tried newspaper (didn't work). I try and take him out frequently during the day (I work at home).

Also, he attacks my other dog (a female shizapoo). He is neutered, by the way. He seems to attack her after I've scolded him for one reason or another. Also, he hates things taken away from him that he shouldn't have. He bites and growls when doing this. Any suggestions?

You have more than one issue with this fella. Because of the aggression I would suggest you call your vet and ask him to recommend a behavior specialist. They may be able to help much faster and safer for you and your other pet.

House training I would use the leash method. Keep him leashed to your belt so he is always in your site. Take him out often, praise him for correct behavior.

Welcome, kimdwfan! It may take your little one a while to get accustomed to his new surroundings as well. Lots of praise and stern NO's when he does something wrong will help re-train him. Also, there have been several people using the clicker training method with good results. Good luck!

what is his feeding schedule? do you leave it out all day? you should put out food and water twice a day then take it away. Until trained, a dog who eats and drinks all day, poops and pees all day. take him out immediately after he eats...at this time, don't let him play...he needs to know it is time to do business...most importantantly, praise him LOTS for going in the right place! additionally, after cleaning soiled areas, spray with a 25% white vinegar 75% water mix.....this is so he wont go back to the same spots. try this page http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/ou...etraining.html
