Potty training success in 2 weeks! Okay, that sounds like an ad for an infomercial... Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that Chester, who will be 5 months next week, is now 95% potty trained! It only took 2 weeks! I bought some poochie-bells and hung on the door. For the first week, I did like one of the YT members suggested and kept pushing his paws up against the bell and telling him "good boy, go outside, go potty" and after a week of doing this, he started ringing the bells on his own! He has been accident free for one full week. Just have to make sure I get to the door when he rings! Anyway, I just wanted to share my success. I suggest that if any of you are having major dificulties with potty training, that you try hanging some bells on your door and giving it a shot. Before we tried this, he would never let me know he needed to go outside and I'd have to watch him like a hawk all of the time. Now I feel confident to let him wander the house without my constant supervision. This is getting long-winded. Just wanted to share! :D |
Thanks for sharing. We live in an apt. now that doesn't allow pets, so I can't take Baby out all the time. I do at night sometimes, so she just pees in the house on the rug...never on the pee pad of course! :( Anyway, I'm moving into a house in the middle of March, so I'm going to train her to go outside instead of inside. And I'm going to try the whole bell thing. Can't wait!!! |
Woo Hoo! Way to go, Chester!!! |
That's WONDERFUL, yay Chester! :D We're going to do outside potty training with Bella when it gets a little warmer outside (and when she's a little older), so I think we'll be trying this idea! Our Kelli was a good girl who would stand and stare at you and sometimes growl to get your attention until you said, "do you have to potty?" and she'd bark like NUTS and head for the back door, lol! I wanna definitely get Bella to the point where she knows exactly where to go and this sounds like a great way to do it, thank you for sharing! |
That's Amazing Quote:
Did you ever use wee wee pads or newspaper along with trying to train him to go outside or did you just try and train him to go outside? Anyway, way to go  |

I just started training him to go outside immediately once I got him at 3 months. He was doing good with the going outside once we we're out, but he would never let me know and would instead pee or poo on the kitchen floor unless I caught on to the signs that he had to go. I am SO proud of him now! I'm getting another boy furbaby in about a month, so I'm hoping that he'll be just as smart as Chester! ;) |

Thanks |
Hey! Bells worked for us too. Loki was already outside trained (no pads or paper) but he'd have the occasional accident if no one saw him standing by the door. We haven't had an accident since the day I put up the bells! I love not having to clean up pee! In fact, the steam cleaner hasn't been out in months! I made mine, but if you have no sewing or creative talent it's worth the $15 for Poochie Bells. Otherwise the design is easy to copy (PM me if you want). Dogs want to please. If you give them a way to communicate with you that they need to go outside, they WILL use it! Good luck everyone! |

I just took ribbon and sewed a loop for the handle and 4 small loops which I attached key rings to each with 2 big jingle bells. I hang mine *next* to the door on a suction cup hook. We have windows next to the door and that's where Loki likes them. |

Poochie Bells? Quote:
Where did you get your poochie bells? |
All I did was suspend a bell (from Walmart or the craft store) on a string from the door knob. No sewing involved. Cost about 50 cents. |
Ooo good idea, I think I will try it, we are at more like 70% ;) |
What kind of bell did you use? Thanks for the info! |
I just ordered some poochie-bells. I am SO excited to use them. I know my girls are smart enough to catch on right away. It will be a great way to help them tell me that they need to go. Both of my girls poo and pee right by the front door, so if they have a way to tell me they need to go out..... we will all be much happier :) |
