11 week old Yorkie Bitting eveything Our 11 week old yorkie is biting anything he can get his little teeth into, including me lol What age do they start to calm down a little? |
When he starts biting things he shouldn't, tell him in a firm voice "no biting" and quickly give him a chew toy. He is teething, he needs a good teething chew toy, always swap out a teething toy with what he's not supposed to chew on. It depends on the dog when they calm down, biting is something you have to train out of them if they are still biting after they get their adult teeth. |
While that is normal for a puppy you have to teach them not too. When he bites you say no and put a toy in his mouth and when he starts chewing that tell him how good he is. You can also have a play pen puppy safe area set up so when he get over hyper and is biting to much you can put him in there. If you are sitting down and he starts bitting you can also say no and stand up to where he can no longer reach you and ignore him. I'm only had bitting issues with my two that came home early at 8 and 9 weeks old my others that I got later had learned from their mom and litter mates about bitting. My youngest when she was a puppy actually had to have time outs because she would not nap and get very grumpy, hyper and bite a lot. Although she also did this when she was hungry also. Lots of different types of chew toys and very important also. |
Biting is very normal puppy behavior- I was a puppy foster for almost two decades and can tell you that some puppies are worse than others but all go through this biting stage ... What I do is ... I always have a chew toy on me ... I spray everything that I do not want chewed in my house with Bitter apple spray ... especially furniture, cables and shoes ... I have TONS of chew toys from nylabones to stuffing free crinkle toys to rope toys and every imaginable variety ... every puppy has different preferences ... when puppy approaches me all hyper , ready to chew my hand I give my " no command " which sounds like eh eh ... and replace my hand with a chew toy, when puppy licks me I praise and reward. I NEVER rough house with puppies and I do not play tease with my hands.A puppy bites me - playtime and all attention is gone ... I give the displeasure command and turn away ignoring puppy ... Play biting is a phase and WILL stop - with some dogs it takes only weeks ( unusual) and with others it can last well into their second year ... When I am dealing with a hyper puppy ... I train ... sit ( treat), down ( treat) , come ( treat), play fetch ... help them replace the behavior of biting with ... doing something you like ... |
