How to get Nova to stand still when groomed? Hi all Nova is 4 months and she doesn’t like to be brushed and doesn’t keep quite when I try to groom her paws. I have another yorkie at home and had 2 in the past and they were both pretty calm. How do I get her to keep calm when I brush and groom her? Thanks ! |
Poor Joey came to me extremely matted and what I did when I was trying to get them out was I gave him a milkbone dental bone and worked on him when he was chewing it. The others just got better as they got older. I hate yorkie puppy hair it’s such a pain. I was excited when it could be shaved of lol. |

You can train a dog to stand still all of the above ways. I use 30 second brushing sessions followed by treats gradually increasing the time as tolerated with patience on the dog's part and don't stop because dog moves a bit, only when they've had all they can tolerate for that session. Treat, praise when still, say " uh on" when moving a lot and look away from the dog to show displeasure, give him some feedback that moving is uncool. If done gradually enough and with enough positive, happy reinforcement and "uh oh" feedback when necessary, you can accommodate a dog to accept almost anything as long as you are calm yourself with it and reward the dog for what he gets right. Whatever works best for your dog is the best way to go. |
Gidget, will be 4 next month, used to HATE being brushed and did not like ANYONE touching her paws. Lots of short brushing time, playing with paws when she was in my lap, and lots of patience. She's still not crazy about having her nails clipped but she does tolerate it. She LOVES having her hair brushed and will stand in my lap while I do it. Be patient. She'll be it one day. |
Grooming Table I also am having issues on grooming table. Brody is now 5 months old and he is extremly hard to brush. Today I tried putting a treat in kong and giving him that which only lasted 5 minutes most of my issues are around the face and the face. Any tips on that area? He is so sweet as long as you are not trying to do anything. It is time for top knot but that is impossible do not know what to do. My last one was very calm this one not so much. |
