Fake Grass Tray Maintenance and Cleaning During a recent heat wave when it was too hot to take Fabian outside to do his business, we purchased one of those fake grass trays to replace his "regular" puppy pad tray (which he's not always good about using). He loves the new tray, hits his mark consistently, and we plan to use it as much as possible instead of the other one. No matter how often we spray off the grass pad and let it soak in the sink, there's always a faint residual "pee" smell. If you have one of these devices, what's worked for you? I really don't want my house to smell like a urinal. <g> |
Maybe spraying it with Odoban would help? |
An about regular white vinegar soak with Dawn detergent, the original blue one they use on animals???? |
Buddy Bear, can you say more about the white vinegar and Dawn soap? How much do you use of each and is this concoction used to clean the fake turf and remove the urine smell? Or do you put it on and let it dry? How often should this be done? I got that Potty training spray that smells like booty, Lol, and not only did it get all over this tiny puppy, but the smell comes in with her. I stopped using after the first try. Didn't work anyway🙄 |

I would use a healthy squirt of dawn and 1/3 to 1/2 cup of vinegar on the fake grass in your sink or outside in a tub. rub it together if its flexable or scrub with a sponge or brush. let it sit for 20 or 30 min. then rinse. If that doesn't do it repeat and add baking soda to the mix, maybe 1/4 cup or so. Good luck. Jennifer & Buddybear |
Thank you! That helps alot! |

I've been wanting to purchase one to put peepads in the tray under the fake grass.. but I keep reading everywhere that it takes too long to dry and if you don't wash it every few days with vinegar then in a few months the smell is unbearable. I like the look of it but it sounds like too much time for cleaning( |
