House Training Help Please Our puppy Milo is just a few days shy of 5 months, we got him at 9wks. I need help with a training schedule PLEASE. Training isn't going so well. My husband works rotating shifts and doesnt reinforce anything.. lets him roam when I not home. Im going to get him on the same page and nip this in* the butt asap! I work Mon to Thurs, 8am to 4pm. I have to leave by 730am and I am usually home by 430pm. We have the Iris 24" xpen from Amazon. He has his bed, pad, water and food in there. He can hold his pee about 6 hrs. During the night he will let me know when he has to go, he will only go in his pen on the pad if no one is home to let him out of it. Does anyone have similar work hours? What training schedule worked for you? Would LOVE so much to hear feedback and others experiences. Our pup is not neutered (YET) he will be. Would that help with marking around the house? |
Hi there I understand your frustration yet I suggest you crate train . When I worked in an office my hours were similar to yours as well as having a young child to get ready and out the door by 730. Wake up 6am Puppy potty 615 While you get dressed let the pup play, eat in the playpen By 715 puppy potty 730 you leave for work Crate your dog If you have a walker or your husband is home, puppy potty mid day Crate You arrive home 430 Puppy potty and play and food Take out every hour until bedtime Crate at night No water intake after 8pm. The frequency and consistency will help you with training. Tools that helped me , if I gotta go take the dog out too , add a “ take the dog out reminder” in my phone, make sure the crate is the just big enough for the dog to stand up and turn around . I don’t like pads yet I know lots of folks use them but try to be sure you’re staying consistent with your option and praise your pup when he pees and poos. |
