belly band I have Toby for 6 months. He is is full of energy hyper personality beautiful pup. He is 11 months now. I never cage trained any of my previous dogs and they all became potty trained eventually. Even when I lived in a multiple stories building my dogs never had problem. Toby does not seem to grasp the concept of peeing outside. We live in the private house. He is running in and out as many times as he wants. A lot of times he is peeing outside. But sometimes he comes back from outside and peeing at home. He also marks. So, I started using belly band. It saves my house from being all smell urine. But it worries me that Toby still peeing in his diaper. I made an appointment to neuter him soon. Maybe it will help. Please advise. Any tips are appreciated. I still won't put him in a crate, though. Thank you all. |
Stop giving him free run of the house!!! Put him in a area that he can't do damage to and take him out to pee with lots of praise and treats. Put the belly band back on when he enters the house. I took Buddybear out starting as a young pup for 20-30 minutes then gradually increased the time. Be consistent. |
If neutered early before leg hiking becomes a habit it may stop the marking. I understand the need for belly band but I myself would be concerned about getting baby / puppy rash from pee against his skin. I have a adopted boy, have all his medical records, he was neutered at 8 months old, he potty's only out doors and he squats, there will be a time or two the will hike his leg on a blade of grass, he has never hiked his leg in the house. Hope when he's neutered the hiking stops. |
I don't understand what's wrong with a male dog lifting his leg to pee. He's a male and males don't normally squat. I guess it's a cultural thing to train your male dog to squat? I can understand that marking can be seen as a bad habit but "hiking"? What's so wrong with it? As far as belly bands go, we just started with one today. Zeke is not pleased but he started marking inside so we'll stuck with it. Also, he is neutered but still marks every chance he gets. I don't know if this was a problem before he went to the shelter. I tend to think not. We shall see if the BB works for Zeke. Good luck to you. |
