Rubbing nose in pee
 

I have a 7 month yorkie that sometimes has accidents and pees in the wrong place I get very upset and scold it then rub its nose in it which I was told was not the best method but. I notice the dog won’t pee in that spot again and I praise it when he pees on the pad is rubbing his nose in pee really so bad? I believe he doesn’t fear me for doing it and this was very common back in the days to potty train pets what is your opinion?

Yes I do have advise, 1-this is a forum that is dedicated to yorkies and your "sarcastic" comment wasn't taken lightly or as a joke. 2-this is not craigs list where abusive language is tolerated. So if your are sincere in wanting help you will have to tone it down.

Back in the ole days, my father's, grandfathers day yes, if a dog made where it was not suppose to they stuck it's nose in the pee or poop, even hit the dog for it. This only instills fear of you in the dog even tho you say you don't "believe" he fears you, he does.

It has been proven positive reinforcement is the best way for training dogs. This is a 7 month old puppy you have, it's still a baby.

Confine him (not "it") to a smaller area if you are pad training him. Do not give him free roam of the house until he is 100 % pad trained. Block off doorways with baby gates or use a xpen or iris pen to confine to a smaller area. Keep his bed, food, water, toys and pads in this area, praise with high value treats, if he loves his kibble that can be used as treats or even one little cheerio when he makes on the pad, never punish, scream, holler, yell at him when he makes off the pad, pick up the poop, place it on the pad, then put your pup on the pad and tell him "poo poo on the paid (or what ever word you use). Then throw the poop away, with peeing, if he pees off the pad, take his pad, place it on the pee so the pad absorbs the pee, put the pad back where it belongs and place the pup on the pad and tell him pee pee on the pad. No yelling just use a firm tone. These babies want to please their humans, so if you offer high value treats, praise with happy clapping hands the pup sees how happy he has made you, this will work much better the sticking his wee lil nose in his pee.

Training is not an over night thing, it takes time, much patience and consistency he is still a baby, high value treats, happy voice praise and hand clapping to show how happy he has made you when he hits the pad.

Rubbing their nose in pee burns their nose and most of the time they don't even remember going there. There is a lot more success with just positive training methods.

Wow just wow. I'm not sure a yorkie or any dog is right for you. That stuff is not funny or even sarcasm worthy. You get more flys with honey just saying......

I saw a show that said it was ok to rub the nose in pee but not poo he was a vet and trainer it helps the dog understand faster especially if the dog is young but when they are older it becomes harder.

I just googled "is it ok to rub a dog's nose in pee" and 100% of the responses say no.

Your tone and sarcasm doesn't translate well in a pet forum such as this. I think the folks on this forum aim to help those who seek it. It was explained that you should try not to use such language yet you've not found a way to communicate in way that shows you are accepting of information and can be kind to members of this forum. I hope that you're not feeling as a victim and you're able to take responsibility for your actions and understand how and why you've received the reactions you've gotten based on your own behavior.

You should have done tons of research before you got a Yorkie. There are lots of good books web sites on Yorkies with very helpful information. Not only for house training but health, dental, grooming, socializing, the list goes on and on. And I’m sure none of them will suggest rubbing their nose in pee, poop, or anything. Yorkies are a breed to themselves, not the same as other dogs. So please do your homework.

I did do some research he’s big 10lbs already at 7 months I went to a local dog show here and I saw prize winning show dogs there owners rubbing there nose in their pee can you explain that?

Your opening thread was what is our opinions of sticking a pups nose in it's pee, In your thread you wrote that you were advised that is not the best method. You have been given advise and an our opinions. You seem to think sticking a yorkies nose in pee is the correct way of training, so why bother asking for opinions. Now you want to turn this thread into a debate because we have to take your word you saw prize winning show dogs their owners rubbing their nose in their pee and you want US to explain to you why they did that, you should have asked that to these owners not to ppl who did not witness it. You have been given what you asked for "opinions".
