Doggy door issues I am new to this site and new to raising a yorkie, although I have raised other breeds from puppies. My little girl Bella is 5 months old and I am having a very difficult time getting her to go out to potty in her fenced off area by way of the doggy door. She will go out, come in and pee, and then go back out! She thinks she needs to pee on the floor rather than out in the fenced area. She will go potty outside if it is in the open yard, but I really need to get her to use the doggy door. I have to return to my school job soon and I am hoping to have her trained before that. Any suggestions as to why she is doing this and what I can do would be so appreciated. |
Do not let her go outside by herself...plzzzz..bad things happens out there to small dogs...... I know because happened to me....:( |
I am sorry for your loss and I understand your concerns. It is just a small fenced area and we have it covered with a aviary net. I had a maltese for 13 years and never had a problem. We also have cats, one for 15 years. She has a 7 year old big brother that is a Shelty that she hangs out with in the house most of the time. |
First thing that comes to mind is treats when she accomplishes what you would like - and lots of praise. |
I have been doing that. I think it is just going to take lots of patience and praise. She is quite a stubborn little girl......but oh so cute! :) I will just keep doing what I have been doing and hope that she eventually decides that is where she needs to go. |
