Pulling I have 3 yorkies mom and her son and daughter. They are all three fixed now . I have been walking them now that weather is warmer but, their pulling on the leashes is killing my back . How can I get them to stop pulling . I got the yup no pulling harness but that doesn't work. I love walking them but can't take the pain in my back |
Simply stop walking with any pull you feel, stand and wait until the dog stops pulling before you start moving forward again. Eventually, doggie gets the idea that to move forward and get anywhere, he must walk without pulling on the lead or he'll spend the afternoon tugging without going actually getting anywhere. It only requires patience and any lead/collar combination you'd like. Head leads work wonderfully for those without patience enough to wait until their dog learns not to pull. |

Can also try when they are pulling to quickly turn around and head the other direction somof dragging them along. Then when they start pulling turn around again, won't be long they will decide they have to watch you and that if they pull you are turning around. |
Have you tried the harnesses the hook in the front? |
I will admit that I have tried all the above - stopping when pulling, turn the other way, and the harness that attaches from the front. Perhaps I wasn't persistent enough, but it never really worked for Scottie. The good news is though, that as he got older, he just stopped pulling. :D Maybe I lucked out. |

Sylvia pulls, but not like she used to. I give her treats. If she pulls, I stop, call her back and give her a treat when she comes back. We also use a harness, so I'm not pulling on her neck. |
