6 month old gone wild! We have a 6 month old Yorkie named, Loki. He has been doing great with training up till a few weeks ago. Suddenly he is ripping up his pads, grabbing and tearing anything he can get his choppers on including a new set of sheets. What can cause such a turn around and how do I quell this? Cheers, Joe |
Loki is the name of my dog, too! He may be bored or teething. Give him rawhide bones to chew on, and make sure to take him on long walks in the morning. Keep anything you don't want chewed off the floor, this chewing phase will last a few weeks. |
Yorkies are pretty smart dogs, and some of a tendency to get bored easily. They will then take that boredom out by entertaining themselves (aka destructive behavior). What you might need to start doing is taking him out on a short walk before he is left alone for hours or play a game to get some energy out. Also, like the other user suggested, get your pup something to chew on. I recommend bully sticks. Could be a teething puppy, but it sounds like a pup with some excess energy. |

My two little morkies are the same way- 10 months & 14 months. And they are fast.:eek: My Vet says the best thing is lots of excercise & walks. The weather has been terrible, so walks are out. I gate my kitchen off & give them toys. They run & wrestle & play hard. I do this about 3-4 times a day. It does settle them down. Laura :) |
My girls can still be pretty naughty at 21 months. They've got tons of toys but love to chew anything that's not a toy (especially wood... :confused:). So, I keep everything off the floor and the edge of the coffee table, lots of walks and they go to doggie daycare 1-2 times a week. I keep them in an x-pen when I'm not home as they inevitably find something I didn't think of. We also use reusable potty pads; they're just adult bed liners. The breeder had them using these and the one time I put down a normal potty pad Monroe did a number on it (at 5-6 months) so I didn't try it again. He'll get better though! I'm hoping someday I can trust mine completely! haha. |
I am having same issue with 14 week old that is teething. He can go through a six-inch bully stick in a few days and is shredding his puppy pads. Because he hasn't had all his shots, outdoor walks not an option for the next month or so. There are only so many laps we can do inside the house to tire him out. The problem only seems to present when I went back to work this week after a week off after picking him up. Hopefully he will get used to the new schedule soon. |
I have a 2 year old. He chews Everything. Toys will not last more than 10 minutes, if lucky, 30 minutes. All I can give him is hard toys, which I worry too about his teeth. We play games with some of his toys, which I know he will chew apart. When we are done playing I have to hide the toy. Oh, what to do?? |
