help with leaving in kitchen Howdy all! Well now a days since me and the old girl are out of the house we put Emma in the kitchen w/her toys, water, and pee pee pad. Well she is starting to act really bad, she tears up here pee pee pad and when we let her out of the cage when we get home she runs around all crazy and we cannot control her. She also will just pee anywhere, where as before she would ALWAYS go on her pad...Even if we know she has to pee and we say pee pee on pad she will go over to it, sniff it, then run out and do it in the living room.... any suggestions? |
I don't know the answer to your circumstances but when Missy started leaving little puddles here and there, it meant WE weren't watching her close enough. We were taking her out every half hour or hour. And she was still peeing everywhere. She was "loose" in the kitchen - nowhere else. All this week, I have had her tethered to ME and she has not had an accident at all and we only take her out every 2 hours now! We're trying to stretch her bladder or teach her to hold it - whatever. This afternoon my husband had her for about 10 minutes in the kitchen. Would you believe that she pee'd right there by him! Good luck! |
My husband and I work all day. We are probably out of the house at least 8 -9 hours. When we get home, Millie has a bunch of pent up energy from being in her x-pen all day, so the minute we get home, I take her outside for a walk/run. She will run in burst for about the 1st few minutes of the walk, after awhile, she settles down and gets to sniffing and enjoying her self in the walk. The walk helps tremendously in releasing the initial onset of energy, plus she goes potty several times while on the walk. (of course this time of year I am walking her on the good days). On the bad weather days, I will get down on the floor and play with her. Mostly chase and retrieve the ball. Anything to get the energy to a manageable state. After the walk or play, I feed her and then we go about our nightly routine. She will have to play again and again thru out the evening, but it's manageable and my husband and I share that job. As for tearing up her pee pad, she could be bored or experience separation anxiety. If it's separation anxiety that's a whole new topic. In any case, you could tape the pee pad down on all sides so that she cannot get to the edges. Quote:

Here are my suggestions. First, when you get home, pick her up and carry her outside so that she can burn off some energy and pee there (instead of in your house). She needs some exercise after having been cooped up all day. Remember, a tired puppy is a good puppy. Second, if she's peeing all of the house, I would keep her contained except for when you are watching her closely. Hopefully, you are not punishing her for pottying inappropriately but ARE giving her treats and praising her excitedly anytime she gets it right. |
our dog did the same until i put her in a smaller room(bathroom) were she would be smelling and walking in her messes, she can now hold it for 4-5 hours, and is getting good about not whizzin in the house, but she also goes nuts when i get home. hard to control but thats understandable |
