Keeping all four puppies from the litter good or bad idea My Yorkie just had 4 puppies and we are considering keeping all four of them. I just recently heard about littermate syndrome and I wondered if this happens alot with Yorkies or if it would be alright to keep them all. Thanks in advance for all advice. |
I'd keep them all but that's just me. Consider the cost, space, etc. Never heard of littermate syndrome. Maybe more info on the subject would be a help. |
I would LOVE to have your problem. How could you choose just one! |
I have a friend that has 22 at the moment. :-) What more can I say. |
I know I don't know how I would choose either. It doesn't seem fair lol. I just read about litter syndrome. Supposedly if you have more then one from a litter they bind to each other instead of you and don't socialize well. So I wondered if anyone had experienced it before or not or if anyone has ever kept the entire litter. |
keeping all four puppies from the litter Please keep them all, I always keep all my puppies and never heard of that syndrome. Never a problem, they are all attached to me. I have a mom, an aunt and two kids. All spayed except the "little girl" 4 years old for which I am looking for a small male to mate. |
My plan is to keep them all. I hope I can handle all of them. I will have a total of 6 dogs. That's certainly a handful! |

Definetly not for breeding by any means!! |
Never had trouble with littermates but 6 dogs are quite a lot to handle. I hope you have plenty of free time. |
I will do the same thing! Because my motto is the more doggy is the more full of happy life experience, but I know that's not easy, because you need to be responsible for what happen to them and you need to do everything for them to grow healthy. |
Keep them, I could NEVER part with any puppy if I had choose to breed any of my girls. I couldn't trust that even a family member would care for them the way I cared for all my babies. Even if they are litter mates you will always be # one for them. You will get use to caring for 6 babies, KEEP THEM. |
I have 4 girls that are litter mates 2 and 2 and they all have the same dad no problems here :) |
You are making me jealous I so wish I could have another yorkie :( |
They are so adorable I can hardly stand it! |
There is nothing cuter in this world than a yorkie puppy! |
Your absolutely right! I love them so. We are keeping 3vamd the male owner is taking the other one. |
We considered getting two dogs from Gracie's litter, but read all of the stuff about littermates and chose not to. She turned out to be such a wild child that we knew we needed a friend for her. Now we have Maggie, and heaven help us if we separate them UNLESS each one of us is holding one! And they are from different STATES! You will be a caregiver more than anything, but you will have happy puppies! |
They are so cute I can hardly stand it! They are just starting to play a bit with each other! |
What a full household you have ahead of you! :) |
Hey there! While I don't have an answer, I do want to say that we have 2 puppy Yorkies from the same litter. I was so happy to get them. A brother and sister. Then I read about the "littermate syndrome" too and I was like oh my gawd....but then I was screw it. I will love to pieces no matter what. That was a month ago. From the looks of it, I got the maybe the 1st born (she's a fattie) and the runt (tiny thing, but aggressive). The girl is an adventurer and independent while the baby boy is content to be held, kissed and loved. Despite the crazy puppy playing towards each other, they do end up sleeping side-by-side or one head on top of the other. :) |
