Need to be gone 2-3 hrs I'm just into my 5th day of training Gidget from the how to potty train your dog in 7 days. She's doing very well on a schedule & I'm learning her signals when she needs to go outside when off schedule. Her confinement area is the kitchen. Sunday I knew I'd be gone 4 hrs so I left a pee pad out for her to use. She used it 3 times. I need to go to the grocery store this morning for my monthly shopping trip. I know I'll be gone about 2 hrs. I plan on taking her out just before I plan to leave. Should I put a pee pad out for her and just take my chances that she'll hold her pee. It's just me and Gidget so there'll be no one here to take her out. Advice please! |
Forgot to mention that Gidget is 5 months today. |
I love potty pads, think they're great. My little girl is so tiny and Her bladder even tinier, the winds in my area might blow her away half the days not to mention our immense rain fall. I think potty pads are much better than accidents and if you know you have to be away for too long that you should use one :) good luck with your new pup! |
Are you outside training her too? If so I think both options are confusing in the beginning. If she's doing that good, should be ok while you shop. But take her out first and stay out till she does her business. Good luck either way your training , so good you have a schedule. |
She had used the wee wee pads until her shots were complete. Vet told me not to get her outside until then. She did really well on the pads so I continued until 2 weeks ago. At the point, she began peeing on the pads, then peeing on the floor and then she decided carpets were even better. So, last week I started on the outside training. She's doing really well because I take her out on schedule but if she needs to go before the schedule says to take her out, she lets me know that she needs to go outside. Before I left Sunday morning, I took her outside and she did her pee pee. I put the pads out because I knew I would be gone 4 hours. She peed 3 times during the time I was gone. I didn't put the pad out when I was gone from 4:30 - 6:30 (took her out at 4:15) and when I got back at 6:30 she had peed on the floor. I'm going to be doing the outside training but leave pads out when I know I'm going to be gone for a while until she has more control of her little bladder. She didn't have any trouble getting back into the routine Sunday evening or yesterday. |
