How to Housebreak Your Puppy in 7 Days Just got this book and read through. On page 51 is a schedule for puppies 4-6 months old. It says to confine in crate or small area. If I confine Gidget to her crate for this time period, should she be in the crate in a room where she can't see me or should she be in a crate while in the same room with me. Want to start this out the right way. Does anyone have the answer? |
typically, It is recommended to crate them in the most active area of the house :) the crate should feel like their budoir, not a punishment. Hope this helps, I have always crated mine for training and for their own safety when I am not home. |

Can she see you or hear you? During the day, a central part of the house should fine :) |

Having said that, you may want to consider having two crates. One for the living room area and one in the bedroom where she can see you at night when you're sleeping. They like to be near you during bedtime :) |
Oh good point, yes HUDSONs crate goes next to my bed at night! |
Gidget was going crazy in her carrier when confined (the kind you use to transport from home to vet etc). So I went to PetSmart yesterday and got the open wire crate. I put her in it this morning for her "confinement" time and she went ballistic for 45 minutes--barking, crying, etc. When she finally calmed down, I got her out of crate and took her outside. The TV was on but I wasn't in the room with her. So, this afternoon, I put her in the crate and sat a few feet away from her at the table doing work on the computer. Same reaction--she barked, cried, whined, peed (I had her out for a pee pee just before I crated her) for 40 minutes. So it doesn't seem to matter if I'm in another room or just a few feet away from her. Am I doing this the right way? Desparately need advice from other Yorkie moms, please. |
How old is she ? When did you get her? My first Yorkie whined n cried a little the first couple of days, my new boy Yorkie didnt. I guess it depends on personality. They all ended up loving, I had two maltese and now two yorkies. The only thing is I started from day one and im not sure how it would've gone if I etarted after that. |

Hi- lol! My little boy is such a mush and Ella def thinks she's the boss. Have you done any obedience training? I had one session with a trainer and he set me straight- said I needed to be the alpha and let this little lady know she's not the boss ;) where is she when not crated? Can u put up a baby gate? |

Introducing Dog To Crate - Dogtime Once you properly introduce the crate (i.e. you never place the dog in the crate, but rather let the dog go in him/herself), you need to do the actual "crate training" (i.e. get your dog to like the crate and be okay in it while you're away). It takes a lot of time and effort on your part, but it's worth it. The Dog Trainer : How to Teach Your Dog to Love His Crate :: Quick and Dirty Tips ? |

Can She hear You? |
She was in the room with me while I was cleaning the kitchen. She could see and hear me the whole time. |
