My puppy refuses to poop on the pad! Hello, I have a gorgeous 3 month old puppy, her name is Pixie. She uses the pad to pee at least 95% of the time, but when it comes to pooping she refuses to use it. I have 4 pads in different spots in the house. Any ideas? Thank you! :aimeeyork |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Being so young and small, I would limit her freedom in your home to a smaller area with one pad. Too many pads and places to go might cause a little confusion that anywhere in the house is okay. Limiting her freedom to a smaller area also makes it easier to supervise her so that you can praise and reward when she does go on the pad. My boys are 7 years old and we still praise for pad use. Is she maybe trying to hide her poops? Some dogs are shy and try to hide it, or they just don't like it. Having the poop picked and disposed of as quickly as possible is important to my Yorkies. One other possible reason: when Max was a puppy, he wanted a fresh pad to poop. Try keeping the pad fresh and see if that makes a difference. Wasteful, but whatever helps them to train. |
Thank you for the advise. Today I made sure to change her pads after she peed a few times. Also, I only kept 2 pads in the house. Let's hope it works. :aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
I would put her in a smaller area with the pee pad. Lots of patience and always tell her to poo poo on the paper. When my Kinder was little she did what your baby did. If she popped on the floor I would put the poop on the paper and tell her again. When she did start pooping on the paper I praised like she was having a party. I never hollered just did kindness and love I never wanted her to get nervous. It will work out she is a baby full of energy and a short little memory. Before you know it she will surprise you. Give her a treat when she pees on the paper and tell her you get a treat if you pop on the paper. Hope this helps enjoy your baby they grow up too fast. Susan |
At 6 months mine won't either. I find poopie in one room mainly- closet, by desk, lol anywhere but on a pad. He will sneak into other rooms if he can. Although, he did this morning for the first time ever. :) so he got a treat and lots of praise. Maybe just an age thing. |
