Help with peeing in her crate! Hello, miss Ginger is 6 months old. She got the hang of potty/crate training around 5 months old. Just recently, she began peeing in her crate again. Last Tuesday, she had her last Lyme vaccine and that night she pooped and peed in her crate. Ever since then the dog walker comes and finds pee in her crate. She cleans it up and then I come home and it's wet again. She was doing so well and holding it fine through the day until that trip to the vet. I have no idea how to stop her from peeing in her crate. I haven't been giving her any water or canned food in the morning before we leave for work. Any other ideas or helpful tips? Thank you! |
I'm not experienced with relapse in peeing in the crate. Scottie had poop accidents, but only when he had an upset stomach. I'm not familiar enough with vaccines, so I'm not sure if this is a side-affect from the vaccine she had last week. Maybe others can comment on possible health related issues. Or maybe ask the vet if there's a possible urinary-related issue? I was surprised to hear that you withhold water from her during the day though. I have always read suggestions to withhold water after a certain time at night before bed when potty training, but that they should always have access to water during the day. During crate training, I hung a dish of water inside Scottie's crate and only took it away after during night time. Alternatively, if it's a matter of her not being able to hold it in or not being a health-related issue, maybe you can consider getting an x-pen and laying out pee pads during the day? |
Crate elimination???? With all the dogs Ive had, all of them very spoiled. When Ive used a crate, NEVER did experience my dog eliminating in the crate. I guess the belief I held that they would not do so in thier bed held true... The exception would be not allowing the dog to get out of the crate. But Ive had the crate be a godsend when I had a English Bull Terrier, many people thought it was mean to put her in the crate. I thought it was better than having my dog jumping all over my date for the night. Can you imagine? She always (my dog) went in the crate quickly not like it was evr used as punishment. |
