Crate Training and Poop
 
I am so frustrated because I have been reading and planning for weeks on how to crate train my yorkie but no one talks about the difference in pee and poop in keeping a schedule. Everything reads to have them go "potty" but today I am strictly sticking to a schedule and feel like I am torturing my pupy to get pee and poop out every couple of hours. Can someone please clarify this point. Should the puppy need to poop every time when you give him his scheuled "potty" time. He has mastered peeing and pooping first thing in the morning and will pee at appropriate scheduled times when directed however I can not get him to poop in his area other than first thing in the morning. He is truly sufering when I sped 40 minutes wiating for him to do both esp when he pees instantly. I dont want him to lose his play time because he didnt do both. Any advice?

When I was training Anna I wrote down everything she did the first few days: time, places, and event--poop or pee. After a while, I caught on to her poop schedule. Then, it was easier to schedule potty and play time. All 3 of mine typically poop about 15 minutes after eating.

This seems to be pretty typical of these babies...actually, any puppies,.....they all seem to go within 15-30 minutes following eating/drinking.....once they realize after they eat, you take them out for the opportunity to relieve themselves.....that schedule will imprint in their brains and it will "click" that this a wonderful behavior that is rewarded with a treat or two....consistent, persistent, and diligent dedication to a "set in stone" schedule that allows baby to memorize and depend on a consistant time frame to go potty. As years pass, they will age and be able to tolerate and accept successfully, small deviations on that schedule...bladders will get larger and wont need to be emptied so frequently, and it gets easier for everyone!

Thank you! He is really sneaky about when he poops, He can hold it for hours if he is being watched. I think for now I'm going to be happy that he is successfully potty training with his pee and keep trying on the poop without being so rigid since he just refuses to do them around the same time.

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: I did the exact same thing. The schedule record keeping really really helped! I was shocked at first, because I read over and over that puppies pooped soon (within 30 minutes) after the eat etc. Scottie wasn't like that at all!

new rescue problems
 
We just rescued a yorkie... we are having potty issues.. We are being patient with her. She gets out of her kennel in the morning and proceeds to pee and then poops on the floor or rug.. Will not go outside and potty. freezes up and won't do anything until she comes inside...


Help!! What should we do and how do we do it.. I don't want to yell at her because she was thrown from a car during a blizzard and taken to a pound and it has caused this scared to death problem... Help
