Yorkie bonding more with boyfriend
 

Hey everyone!

I'm not really sure what to do about this situation. So our 1.5 year old Yorkie lately is bonding much more with my boyfriend, and seems to have lost interest in me!

Up until a couple months ago, he followed me everywhere and watched my every move. He slept on my lap. It was so sweet, and I loved having him with me all the time.

I'm not sure what's happened, but suddenly (like a couple months ago) he's really taken to my boyfriend. Maybe it's because my boyfriend has taken more of an interest in HIM, and plays with him a lot, gives him lots of treats, etc. while I have been quite busy with my home business. I'm not giving him less attention, but I think my boyfriend is giving him more. But I don't want to have to feel like I'm competing with him....

I've tried over the last couple weeks or so to "win him over" again with lots of treats, a little training, playtime and lots of long walks. He enjoys the time we spend together, but then my boyfriend walks by and he's GONE, to follow him wherever he's going.

If our Yorkie is in a room alone with me, he scratches to get out. If he's in a room alone with my boyfriend, he's perfectly content and sleeps on his lap.

I won't lie - while I'm happy they have a stronger bond now - it's a little heartbreaking.

Do you think he's just chosen his "favourite" as my boyfriend, and that's that? This really was "my" dog, so it makes me sad that he doesn't seem to love me anymore! I mean I'm sure he loves me.....but he doesn't seem that interested in spending time with me.

Any advice as to how I can bond with him and get him to be my little shadow again? :)

I think that sometimes dogs can go through stages. Maybe don't see this stage as one in which you have *lost* the bond with your pup but that your pup has another bond with your BF.

Go on and do what you would like to with your dog. Exercise play go on short trips together and just enjoy his company.

Relax and enjoy your time with your dog.

He's likely sneaking him some extra treats. You know, the "good" stuff. And by good I mean bad. LOL

Don't worry he still loves you. Max and Sasha go back and forth between Toni and myself. Some days they lay on her lap other days they lay on me. Just keep showing him that you love him and he will return that love. His heart is big enough to love both of you!
