how to break this? ! Bella knows shes not suppose to get on the table to steal the food sitting on it but anytime i leave anything weather its a bag of chips thats closed up or setting a snack down to run to another room, as soon as I leave the room she gets on the table and steals it. She knows shes doing something bad because she doesnt do it in front of me and when i catch her, she puts her ears down and lays downs. I know I should just not leave anything on the table but i often forget and next thing i know its gone. How can i stop her from doing it. Even if i dont leave anything out, i still dont want her doing it at all. Any input or advise? Thank you! |
Anytime Beowulf does something bad I put him in his cage for like 20-30 min that seems to work for me of course he'll do it again eventually but not for a while. Hope this helps. |
I would correct HOW she is getting up on the table!!!!! I am just as concerned about a fall from the table, as I am what she is getting into ON the table!!! |
I would keep a rolled up newspaper/magazine AND treats on a hard surface near the area you enter to see the table. If she is on the table, quickly and somewhat loudly snap the newspaper down on the hard surface and say a firm NO. Then, I would crate/confine her somewhere for 10 to 30 minutes. HOWEVER, if you think the loud snapping noise will startle her enough to fall/jump off the table, then skip that part unless she is large enough yorkie that she is not easily injured by getting off the table. Also, I would start teaching her "leave it" with items on the floor. Then when she is proficient at leave it, proceed to laying dog acceptable foods (not her treats) on the table and tell her to "leave it and stay down." If you come back into the room and she has not been on the table, lavish praise on her for "staying down" and give her treats of her own. This is serious because she could get into something that could cause her great harm, so it has to be corrected as soon as possible. |
