Wonderful Pup with Horrible Habits Hello! This is my first post, but I've come to this forum on and off ever since I bought my yorkie pup, Kaiah, 8 months ago. She will turn one on Christmas. I have been doing my best to train and bond with her from day 1, but the training bit isn't helping much. She still wees wherever she pleases, whether it's her crate, the pee pad, or the floor. She doesn't care about laying in her own mess or jumping in her own mess. She also has the bad habit of eating the poop of our slightly older male Shihtzu puppy. (I'm guess that is a dominance issue). Kaiah also nuisance barks, though some of her barking might be separation anxiety. She is always with our 2 year old Shihtzu, but if I dare to take him outside and leave her crated, her barking reaches Mariah Carey pitch levels. Even if it's a 10 or 20 minute walk,s he will continue barking non-stop until she hears us come back inside. Kaiah is full of energy. I have taught her how to sit and watch, but if I so much as move in her direction, she spins in circles of excitement. For months I kept reinforcing that she should sit and make eye contact to get what she wants, but she persists in raising on her hind legs, jumping, whining, spinning, and being a tiny lunatic. She is my family's third dog, but technically the first that I bought. I got her from my mom's coworker, whom I realized too late was not a proper dog breeder. I know all of the bad habits developed there, however I thought with time and effort, I could train Kaiah. Now my time is running out. I currently stay with my parents, but I'll be moving out in a few months, and my parents have made it clear that Kaiah cannot stay with them. I'm posting this because I want to exhaust all my options before I have to rehome my puppy. She's such a sweet girl. She has never gone through the hard biting phase most puppies go through, and she always follows and comes to me obediently. I just need to suggestions on how to tackle those issues. I have already enrolled her in training class, which she does well in. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? |
