How do you stop the whining? My husband and I were woken up about 6 times last night by Lola's whining! I know she is young (10 weeks) but the first few days we had her she didn't whine at all. She was sleeping, or at least she was quiet, all night. Then a couple of days ago she started crying in the middle of the night and now she does it every time she is in her fenced off area. Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop this behavior? |
Ignore her As long as she is safe and warm, ignore the whining. Close your doors so you don't hear her as well. Does she have food, water, pee pad, bed, crate, etc in her fenced in area? Small crates to sleep in make pups feel more secure. Give her a treat when you put her in there. You are right, she is very young, and she has chosen you as her pack mate and does not want to be separated from you at all, even at night. If you have an old tee shirt of yours you can wear and then give her in her fenced in area, that might help. Other people use stuffed animals with ticking hearts in them. If you give in to the whining and get up to comfort her, you are teaching her that whining is rewarded. Good luck! :D |

Pennies in a can or jar can probably fix that problem. Puppies for some reason hate the rattling sound. And puppies around that age do that sometimes. Or maybe you can cover the crate, because if they see you they want to be with you. So if you cover the crate with a cover. She will probably stop whining. It might take a while before she gets used to this. Hope I helped. :) |

Yep- you better ignore her unless you want her to be sleeping in your bed and be the boss of the house. She is young and will have to learn that lights out mean QUIET- it will just take a few nights and I bet she will get the message. I also agree with covering her crate- it makes them feel safer and is her crate small enough? |
IGNORE! IGNORE!! IGNORE!!! IGNORE!!!! I agree with everything Jaspers Mom said. We covered the crate at night. We had it right next to the bed on my side. We put a stuffed animal in with the heart-beat. Missy whined for many nights but as time goes by it gets less and less. I think it took her about a month before she stopped crying at all. A stuffed animal or something for him to snuggle up to helps a lot. My breeder gave me a toy that the puppies had played with so he had the smell. Maybe a little soft music in the background to soothe. Don't worry, it will go away! |
I konw I have posted this before, but, I put Baxters crate next to my bed. That way he knows I am there without sleeping with us. Not a peep out of him since we have done this. Good Luck. He was 9 weeks old when we got him and the night we put the crate by our bed, he has slept throught the night. He is now 13 weeks old. |
