Yorkie off furniture...Help please!!! How do you keep your yorkie off furniture? I am having a heck of a time, my baby has hurt his leg several times from jumping off sofa or chair. Anyone have suggestions please |
I put water in a squirt bottle, and I squirted my jumper every time she even LOOKED like she was going to jump on anything! It kinda works....if she gets real excited and she thinks she hears something outside, she forgets and jumps up so she can see out the window....and then I go after her with a rolled up newspaper....she KNOWS what that rolled up newspaper means, and bless her heart she wont jump down so she wont hurt her knees.....so I just fuss at her and slap my leg with the paper....she knows she did wrong, and that is what I want....and then she is good for a couple of days, before she forgets and accidentally finds herself back up on the couch looking out the window! Thank God there has not ever been an injury from jumping down....I would REALLY intensify the newspaper training sessions! |
Thank you for your reply , I will try that, I did use the water idea but doesnt seem to bother him. He is being crated at the moment, when I work and at night, the times I am unable to watch him. The vet said she wants him to rest the leg for 6 weeks, he is only 4.3 lbs and 8 years old. Breaks my heart to know he got hurt again. He is so hyper, especially when he hears a dog or person or anything outside. He goes crazy barking and jumping. |
My Buddybear gets totally beside himself riding in the car . Yesterday his vet suggested 1/4 tsp of Lecithin per day to help him (granules from the health food store). He weighs 7#2oz.... I also bought from her Zylkene capsules (1 per day). These are natural things to help in the brain etc . . . The only other thing I can think of is cage rest when you are not around him. Maybe having him tethered to you when you are home would restrict the jumping off etc. Or possibly stairs to get up and down the furniture. If he's been allowed on the furniture for sooo many years it would seem quite the challenge to now tell him they are off limits. Best wishes and hopefully he'll adjust and heal quickly. |
If this is something that he is already use to and was allowed to do it wont be easy. You may have a better chance of teaching him how to use stairs to get up and down off of the furniture. |

What I do is as soon as he gets on the furniture I put him down and say "No" and keep repeating this action until he doesn't do it anymore. Although, I always fall for that cute face and let him on the furniture sometimes :D |
Yoga Bolster We have a nice set of wooden stairs for Shelby to use in the main bedroom - but we didn't want stairs all over the house. This was our solution - a rectangular yoga bolster that happened to be in the house because I do yoga fairly regularly - we have a couple of them now - one for the sofa and one for the extra bed. I trained Teddy from a puppy to go to his 'spot'. So he has a little basket with a very soft pillow in it that he knows he's allowed to get into and HAS to get into when commanded. If your dog learns that the furniture isn't an option and that their 'spot' is better anyway - you might find the issue goes away! Consistency is key, though! |
