Adult Potty Training PLEASE HELP Advice Needed! I have a 8 year old female Yorkshire Terrier who I am having trouble potty training. She goes pee pretty consistently outside in the backyard during our regular potty breaks but insists on going poo inside the house. I have pee-pee pads in the living room which she uses sometimes (but seems to prefer to go poo on the carpet or rugs). I take her for walks every evening and she will sometimes goo poo then. I am often gone and leave her in the garage will pee pee pads. She will go in the garage (on or off the pee pee pads). She is really clever and usually really easy to train so I am feeling frustrated. I really want to address this. Any advice on addressing this issue would be appreciated (or any recommended forum threads or books to read). |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Have you had Lily for her entire 8 years, or did she come from another home? If she was in another home, do you know what her potty situation was in her previous home -- pad, outdoors, both? For any type of training, first limit her roaming room to a smaller space with the pads. When she uses the pad, praise her profusely and give her a treat. Always praise and make pottying a good thing. Praise her outdoors too. Don't scold for accidents, and make sure you clean the areas with an enzyme cleaner to remove the scent. Dogs are often attracted to return to a spot if it has a scent. When she is consistent with the pad, gradually increase her roaming space. |
