Joey Made Me Proud! Can I just brag a little bit? Joey made me sooo proud tonight. At 7 months, he's been doing "Drop it" on command for several months now. Tonight, though, for the first time, he picked up something he shouldn't have (a pen my son dropped), trotted over and dropped it by my feet. He then looked up expectantly, wagging his stub. I had to think he was saying "Ha! I dropped it before you even said it! Where is my treat???" Naturally he got a jackpot! Also, we are now in the "advanced class" at puppy obedience school. If you've never tried obedience school, I highly recommend it! We're having sooo much fun. Thanks for letting me brag! :thumbup: JOEY: YOU ROCK!!! :thumbup: |

I am so proud of your little dude and especially with you for your gentle training touch and your dedication to this approach. What a thrill it must be for you to watch the eagerness in his eyes when he does something you want. I am sure the two of you have really bonded over this whole experience. I was just wondering how you found your obedience school. I'd really like to get Dolce into some classes when she is a little older, but am afraid to take her into an environment with a ton of other big dogs. Do you go to a place that specializes or has a class specifcally for small breeds? If so, how did you find them? Thanks! And your lil guy is SUPER smart!!!! |
:wavey: Thanks you-guys! I just had to brag. Joey is such a cool dog. Tristina, our obedience class isn't just for small breeds. In fact, there is just one other small dog; all the others are quite large. It has worked out great because of the way the trainer handles the class. I was disappointed the first day that there was no off-leash socialization, but now I think that she may be right. What she has us do at the beginning of every class is a structured socialization where we walk around with dogs on leash to greet everyone several times. The dogs smell each other for a count of 3 (1..2..3) and then you move on. She says that it's important for dogs to learn to break eye contact rather quickly and to learn that they can't play with every dog they see. Handled this way, Joey is quite confident around the big dogs. To find a class try doing a google search for "dog training Sacramento". You will want to make sure that they use positive training methods only and maybe ask how they handle socialization. How old is Dolce? |

Joey is doing so well its so nice when it all starts coming together . Lottie has just started fetching and bringing things to me and loves the click and treat as she is food orientated , I have not found any good classes locally so I am just working on my own with it but I think she is doing really well at 16 weeks she can sit , give a paw , and she will stop at the edge of the pavement and sit befoe we cross the road. She is also helped as she is following alfie with this, but I love the results. |
