Chewing Everything! Little Pepper Jack is a chewing machine. Door moldings, furniture legs, wicker hamper, whatever he can find. I have bought him several chew toys, but they don't interest him like the dining room chair leg. Bitter Apple spray worked with Lacey. Pepper Jack, being his atypical little self, seems to like the taste. So what else? I've heard deodorant. Would that be spray or solid that works best? Any thing else that would deter the little Woodchuck? |
Do you think he likes to chew on hard things instead of soft toys? I've been giving my puppy Himalayan chews and more recently CET Chews and a small bully stick. He just usually attacks his soft toys and shakes them, but really goes to town on the chews lol. |
I bought him some hard rubber chew toys. He will chew on those for a little while, but then goes back to my furniture. He does like to chew on a solid plastic coat hanger for some reason. Walks around with it in his mouth and then trips over it as it is so much bigger than he is. I gave him one of Lacey's bully sticks last week. It did not agree with his little stomach. When Lacey was a puppy and at her craziest, a bully stick would keep her occupied for hours. |
Just wonering how old Pepper Jack was at the time of post and if and how you broke him of it. Madisyn is 16 weeks old and is chewing everything. |
Pepper Jack is 15 weeks old and still chewing. Right now he's happily chewing the handle of my hairbrush which he pulled out of my purse. Spraying clear deodorant on my furniture legs has helped there. |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 406526 Thought we were the only ones. :) Charlie (4 months old) takes every opportunity to chew on furniture! We have a lot of antiques and we are constantly saying "no" to our little termite. We thought it was the furniture polish so we wiped the legs down (he also loves the corner of boxes). He seems to be slowing down a little and can't wait for this "experience" to be history. :) I searched YT and found a number of other threads - happy to see we aren't alone. |
Pepper Jack is still chewing. He is now 9 months old. I recently moved into a brand new home. He has been impossible ever since. Lacey adapted within a couple of days. Pepper Jack seems to be seeing just how much trouble he can get in. For the first time in months, he is being penned again. I came home yesterday to a chewed up dining room chair leg and worse, he chewed the corner of my new cabinets. Then he destroyed a pee pad and left me a present on my rug. While I was cleaning and repairing the damage, he was looking for treats in the cat litter pan. Then he pooped again beside the litter pan. It's like he forgot everything and we are back to the beginning on training. I felt so guilty leaving the house this morning with him in the playpen. He looked pitiful, but I'm at my wits end trying to keep my new home nice and protected from the little 5 pound destroyer. |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 406667Wow - you do have your hands full! I found by replacing (each morning) his Rawhide Chewy Flip (stick) and Rawhide Twists (square) his chewing has just about stopped. Well, it seems to have stopped but our little termite might be waiting for me to look the other direction! :) |
Easy Fix I know this post is two years old but for future people visiting for solutions. I found that mixing half apple cider and white vinegar in a spray bottle the applying to all possible chew areas helps a lot because obviously dogs hate the taste and on another note it also prevents accidents in the same areas and eliminates the scent of pee.:aimeeyork:dogprints |
