Pooping in the house at 2 1/2 years old We have a wonderful 2 1/2 year old yorkie named Tucker. Recently, Tucker has started going poop in a family room. At first I thought it was because of the cold - it has been below zero. However, he goes outside for pee with no problem. He was crate trained but has not been in the crate for over a year. We have gone to specific feeding times and taking his food away after 1/2 - 1 hour. It helps his appetite, but not this new habit. It's warmed up to 30 degrees and he still has the problem. My wife gets up at 4:30am, feeds the dog and takes him out then she exercises for about 30 minutes. This morning, he went out, peeed, and came in. When she was exercising, he did it again. We scolded him and he looks sheepish, he appears to know it's wrong. IN all honesty, we have NOT been putting him outside once we scold him. We're very open to suggestions.... we sure dont want a pooping puppy :( Jerry |
You might have to go back to the basics, which include taking him out and making sure he does his business and if he doesn't, he goes back in the crate for a little while and then back out again continuously until he does number 2. That might reinforce that there's no play time until you go to the potty. Especially since in the AM you know that he needs to poop and pee. I've read a lot on here that sometimes these yorkies slip up and just need a quick refresher course. Maybe someone else can provide some other advice! :) |
