11 month old yorkie Hello everyone, I'm new to Yorkie Talk and being a pet owner! My husband and I purchased a yorkie from a lady on craigslist who said that she was trying to rehome him from a family that didn't want him anymore. I'm very concerned about him though. I took him to the vet to get checked out. The vet said that he was healthy. I have several issues and need advice. 1. We had to rename him because the lady didn't know his name 2. He won't eat or drink 3. He walks around a little bit, but he isn't responsive to my husband nor me 4. He won't use a puppy pad nor use it outside. He's peed 3 times on the floor and pooped once.....When he starts to use it as soon as I catch him he stops so I can't put him on the puppy pad 5. This evening, he started panting and breathing heavy. He will be just lying in his bed and then will start panting. His vet gave me some stuff to put on his gums, so I did that today but i'm really worried that his stomach is empty and he's dehydrated.... :( Please help. |
Welcome to YT! I'm sure many very experienced folks will come on and post more help for you. From what you are saying, it sounds to me like yourmpupmhas not been socialized - was maybe part of a breeding restraint situation. The panting and not interacting with you could be anxiety response, again related to not being socialized. That would be my first guess if the vet says he is healthy. Confining him to a smaller area will help with his "accidents", helping him make better potty choices etc. You have no background (or name) on this pup so the pup is probably real confused. Smaller area with bed and peep area and a tight schedule for going outside. Have you taken the pup for walks yet? That may help. E understand this pup may never have been taken for a walk somthat no idea what it is all about. Be sure to use a harness, not a collar for this. Good luck! Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Pups can get picky about eating when stressed about the new home. However, it is very important to work with him until you get him eating and drinking. Are you feeding him kibble or canned food? If you have a good quality kibble, you can put a little diced chicken breast on top of it to get him started, and even moisten the kibble with the broth it is cooked in. Maybe a bowl of the broth (no salt or spices) would get him into drinking more. You could also offer a little cottage cheese, or yogurt, and some people feed baby food (meat varieties) along with kibble. The little ones can't go long without food and water, so stick with it. |
