Potty Training Help Hello all! I'm new to the boards with our very first yorkie puppy. Bailey is 10 1/2 week old and just came to live with us yesterday. We are crate training her and she's taken to it like a pro. She slept 6 hours last night! My problem is trying to get her to potty. She was using potty pads with her parents before she left and though we want to train her outside, we decided to go ahead and stick with the pads for now. The difficulty is, she won't use it! She has gone on it twice. I know she has to go. When I let her out of the crate, and carry her to the pad, she sniffs and circles, then promptly lays down. If i step away, she walk away from the pad, sniff and circle and squat. I make a slight noise which startles the stream, pick her up, and move her back to the pad. Nothing. She just lays down. Of course I'd like to her to go potty on the pad, but more importantly, I'm worried about her because she has not gone much at all. Any help would be much, much appreciated! Marisa |
Congrats on your new pup. Honestly, if your end game is to have her go outside I would start with outside right away. If she was going on the pads no problem I would say stick with that, but why would you spend weeks or months trying to train her on the pads just to eventually have her go outside. Just my thoughts. Good luck and hopefully others will give some more advice! |

Have you tried the go here attractant spray. You just spray it on the pad where you want her to go. |

The best advice I could give is just be patient. I can remember going outside with Lucy for up to 15-20 minutes at a time every 15 or twenty minutes! It was stupid-frustrating. She's only now starting to have a slight modicum of control in being able to hold her bladder. She'll only go on a clean pad (or on the floor next to a soiled one) or she'll alert me that she needs to go out. Then again, she hates when I do anything not directly related to giving her attention, so it's hard to know when she's just barking cause she's a psycho diva or because she actually is alerting me she needs to go out. Good luck! |
