Pottie issues Good Morning and suggestions needed! My mom recently adopted a little Yorkie rescue female. She is 7 years old. Sweetest little girl! However, we are having a horrible time training her. We take her outside to do her business, and she usually does. She is praised and given a treat. Bring her back into the house and she pees again! She thinks the whole house is her bathroom. Pooping is hit or miss. We know nothing about her background, so of course this makes it even worse! She is crate trained, but we are beginning to wonder if she wasn't kept in some sort of enclosure where she could have her freedom to pee when and where she wanted. She has a pee pad, and it is hit or miss. Suggestions? |
Well, I am no expert but first I would not let her have the run of the house. Keep her contained to the kitchen or bathroom where you can keep it clean. Have patience with her as she may be a victim of a puppy farm. Maybe some of the breeders will have more ideas for you. Welcome to the forums. |
I agree. I believe she was used for breeding purposes, and at age 7 was no longer needed. However, I believe she was treated well. Walks very well on a leash and comes when she is called. I have instructed mom to keep her on a leash and with her at all times, except when she is in the little TV room where mom can keep a close eye on her and have some control. She just loves my mom and has since the moment they layed eyes on each other so we have that going for us at least. I am sure she wants to please, so we just need to be patient. Thank you very much for your response and have decided to follow your advise. |
ohhhh so lucky she does so well on a leash! I think your instructions to your mom to keep her on the leash and close by is very smart. I wish my maggie was good on a leash, she hates it! lol Good luck, so happy for your mom and the pup, sounds like they are a great match :) |
2 days! Great news! Mom's little girl Sara has had 2 successful days going outside to do her business. We are pretty tickled! I don't know what twigged it, but we will keep our fingers crossed that she continues in a positive manner. It has been pretty chilly here, but she continues to enjoy her walks.. We do think that she has had some previous training. It was nice to have people rooting for her! Thanks!!! Joan |
Sara's regression Well, that didn't last long. She is now worse than ever. She does her business outside, and then comes in and pees. The problem is, she is inconsistent. No rhyme or reason to this. We have kenneled her, we have diapered her, we have used potty pads... all to no avail. Mom is a healthy spunky 85 year old lady, but this is getting to be a little much. We live in a northern location where it is very cold. We are getting really desperate. Any more ideas? |
