Trying to teach bark on comand Well trying is the word for it . They say if you can teach bark on command you can control their barking. But boo looks at me like duh whats that. My papilon even does it when i say to but not boo. How do you get them to. Ive even offered treats he loves. That dont even work. |
There's a really good sticky on this: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...h-barking.html It looks like other members are now starting to use things like Bark Off or Bark Command or something like that, where they send off sounds only hear-able by dogs and it stops their barking...but this should only be used for extreme barking and inappropriate barking, such as aggressive barking at another dog, or crazy barking whenever the mail truck goes by. When you press the button to say the sound, you say the command at the same time and when they settle down, praise and give them a treat. |
Yep i am intersted in that but still would like to try the propper way. But my boo has no clue he stands there looking at his treat and me like . SAY WHAT even tried to barl lol that went over well |
I taught Teddy to bark by making my hand in the shape of a sock puppet, if that makes sense, and snapping it at him and saying, "SPEAK, RUFF"! And, funny as it sounds, that's how he was taught and that was the very first command he learned at 13 weeks old..ha. Then, to teach him "QUIET", I would say, "SPEAK" and he'd bark and immediately after I'd say "QUIET" and whilst he was trying to register that command, I'd stuff a treat in his face. He now understands quiet and it works as well as any command will for a stubborn yorkie:) |
You have to frustrate them To teach your dog to bark on command, you have to cause him/her to be frustrated. It feels mean at first, but it worked very well for us. We had to teach our Yorkie to bark so that he would ask to go out. Otherwise, he'd just sit there so quietly no one noticed him. We simply followed this video from Zak George: How to Teach your Dog to Speak or Bark When you Ask My fear was that teaching him to bark would make him a yappy dog, but that's not the case for us. He does vocalize more than he did before, but not much. I think the trick is to never yell or raise your voice to get a dog to *stop* barking because they think you're just joining in the fun! Hope that helps! |
