Assumed Housetrained Pup Pooping in House My 5 month old pup has just recently started this fad where she poops in the corners of the house. At 4 months old she stopped having accidents completely and was always going to the bell when she needed to go. It's recently been getting colder (granted when it snowed she liked it >.<) and the last couple weeks she's randomly started this habit. I just don't understand how she would go an entire month accident free and now start this. |
She's pretty young to be completely housetrained, they seem to have setbacks when they start teething and after they are neutered. Personally, I don't think she likes the cold and I don't blame her. How is she with the urine training is she going outside for that? You could just start taking her outside several times a day, and there's always pee pads. |
She's only really had poop accidents :S hahahaha I wonder what about teething would cause accidents? Do you know what the best way to correct these setbacks, or do they usually correct themaelves? |

This is good advice, because if you "punish" the accidents, it will cause other problems, everything from aggression, and hiding poop to eating poop, they want to destroy the evidence. At least she's not peeing inside, that's really unusual at that age, don't punish for mistakes for that either as it can cause submissive peeing. She's doing great! |
My yorkie puppy is almost 9 mos. old and doesn't pee in the house and rings the bell or goes by door/gate to let me know. She does, however, poop in the house about 1-2/wk in front room (which is off limits most of time) and it's always her 2nd poop of the day. In the morning, she poops after her meal, but her 2nd poop is between noon and 6pm. It seems to happen so quickly because i try to watch her knowing her pattern. She does not have run of house but i will let her follow me at times when I have to leave the room. She rings the bells often to go out but does not always poo or pee, but I do let her out. Not sure why I can't get passed this hurdle at this age because she is generally good. Thanks for suggestions! |
It has been my experience that most pups under 10 months old still need supplemental potty training. They are just too young to have full run of the house without supervision because they will get overwhelmed and forget. You may want to set up your own time schedule for taking her out and make sure she goes before she comes back in. You probably know her patterns pretty well by now so you should have a good idea when she should have to go potty. She is still a baby and needs some help with her potty training. |
