Need Advice: Behavior Problems at the Office My yorkie comes with me to my office. She hangs out on her bed in her cubby or on the rug while I work. I keep the door shut for her not to wander and for me to have privacy. When someone knocks on the door and begins to enter, she immediately begins barking, lunges for the door, attacking the bottom corner of the door and/or the person. She doesn't act this way at home or at other places/locales. I don't have a spouse or children - it's just her and I. How can I get this to cease? |
I believe she thinks she is protecting you. I am surprised she does not do this at home as well. Maybe you can work with a coworker who is a friend where they knock at the door and come in while you block her from charging the door by picking her up and letting her know you are in charge and it is okay for her to relax. As you consistently repeat this she will feel more at ease knowing you are in charge and she does not have to be the guard dog? I am trying to get Buster to not get so worked up when people are outside our front door. |
I believe that may work. I will try it. I forgot to place in my first post that she doesn't act this way when I'm not in the office - essentially when she's alone, there is no problem with people coming in or out of my office. So, I believe you are correct that she feels she needs to protect me. (Which if you knew my office environment, you'd REALLY understand why she would feel this way!) Thank you for your advice! |
