Training Treats Looking for some suggestions for training treats. If I give my 5 pound Yorkie the treats I gave my 12 pound Italian Greyhounds, he will be a porker! What works well for these little guys? Thanks! |
Frozen peas work if they like 'em. Or Cheerios. I either home-make soft treats (yam, peanut butter, organic honey, etc.) or just use any soft commercial treat that they can swallow quickly. |
I have always fed One dry kibble (Royal Canin Puppy now) and used One dry cookie treat, Iams Puppy Cookies shaped like Milk Bone is what I'm using with Ginger. I give her a broken chip pinky nail size or smaller each time at the beginning tapering off randomly as she gets better. Now in my opinion, treat can be most anything that is not harmful, I like the cookies as they are dietary balanced with food value, not junk. I also believe almost anything can become a treat if treated as such by acting as if it is very special and limited. Our Heeler got a cookie for finishing her food and really looked forward to that cookie. I don't believe in giving any other foods or treats for the dogs life span unless Vet prescription requires it, such as Kidney diet. In my opinion this is better for dogs in the long run, dry kibble, cookies leads to better teeth, less tooth loss in the long run. Also Stable diet is better for dogs digestive system and general health if your using a quality food brand. |
My little girl only likes freeze dried treats. She's turned her nose up at everything else. |
We use ChattiesMom's foxy Pups treats. Cali adores them and the size is perfect. |
I use their food kibbles, or cheerios. They work great! |
Treat I use Cloud Star soft treats, one chicken and one liver flavor. They have good ingredients, not much fat and are easy to break into tiny pieces. If my dog gets picky I even use a couple in broken up pieces as a topper. |
For treats, I give mine Wellness Petite Treats or sometimes their kibble. |
Thanks for the ideas! Interesting that many of you use kibble for their treats. Good idea...Kingston hoovers his food, so I will give it a try! |
freeze dried salmon treats for cats and dogs. Minnie LOVES them! |
