Wearing a collar indoors I was wondering how many people have thier yorkies wear their collar indoors, my yorkies only wear a harness when going outside as one has trach problems. I know some people who have their dogs wear collars with tages all night indoors . Just curious :) |
Jackson usually wears a collar indoors during the day with tags. I take it off before bedtime. |
Cody wears a collar 24/7, it has his tags & micro chip tag. I leave it on for "just in case", ya never know what can happen, house fire, break through screen if he sees a cat, squirrel, butterfly. Knock on door, I have a gated front deck but that doesn't mean a stranger coming to knock on my door will close that gate. Cody is adopted, I have him 9 months, he is 3 y/o, came from the city, now lives in the country, everything is new to him, he is curious about everything. I am still getting to know him and I don't trust him. I live in a heavily wooded area, if he gets loose he may not respond to any command. When I walk him I use a harness. Collar is safe as long as it's not snug. |
Calling ALWAYS has her collar on but it's only for her tags I never ever hook a leash to it. The quickest way to get you dog back if they slip out is by a name tag with your number on it. Callie has collapsing trachea but just wearing a collar is not going to irritate it. When we are using the leash we always use the harness. I keep Callie's collar where if it got stuck on anything it would slip off. I also make sure her collars are very comfy sense she will be wearing it all the time. |
well this gives me something to think about, as my babies do not wear collars when we are indoors. I was always concerned it might get hooked on something and choke them. They are jumpers and I cant seem to break this habit. Thank you everyone for your input |
Yeah mine don't wear collars unless going outside. |
They have the breakaway collars, many members use them. My cody is a big boy, 12 lbs. He's 1/2 frog, jumps on everything, even jumps on the bed trying to jump up to attack the ceiling fan (iyiyi), there is nothing in the house he can get caught on, back yard is also safe. But I can understand ppl not leaving collars on. I have had pups for 32 + years, all babies always wore their collars, if I would take it off I would forget to put it back on. Bath time I hang it on the screen door to remind me to put it on before he goes out lol. |
Most times yes but always take off when crating at night or when I go somewhere |

Tibbe wears his collar w/ID and tags 24/7 as he goes outside to potty sometimes during the night so I don't want to take the chance. Plus, we could have an emergency during the night and be too ill or I forget to collar him before we leave the house so he just wears his very light collar all the time. |
The only collar I put on is a breakaway collar. |

My Tilly will wear a beastie band with her name tag on it (has my phone number as well). Beastie bands are for cats and my cat does wear one - he has gotten caught on his collar but becase it is a soft stretchy collar he was just fine. Hence why my puppy will have one as well. For walks/car rides she uses a harness. |
