Urine Marking My little boy is 4months old. He constantly marks on the carpet, and does not raise his leg to do so. I do not believe any other dogs have lived in my home before. The spot is so small, I can't find it in the carpet to clean it up. What can I do to prevent this behavior? I am not ready to have him neutered since he is not done growing. |

He is still a puppy and not fully house trained. First, you need to contain him to a much smaller area where you can keep your eyes on him all the time. Are you crate training? If you are then you need to put him in his crate and only allow him access after going potty. Are you taking him out for potty, using pads.......? |

Ii do keep my eyes on him, but it only takes him one second to do it and by then it's too late. He stays in the crate while I sleep at night and I wake up 3x a night to place him on a potty pad. In the day he is usually in my Livingroom where he uses the pad frequently. |

Urine Marking in Dogs | ASPCA According to that, marking can start at 3 months old, and he is 4 months old. |

I was told by my vet to never reward peeing with treats only praise. Because they will start to pee anywhere just to get a treat. They associate the act of peeing with a treat and not the place they are peeing. But I hear lots of ppl that swear by it. So idk |

Treats and confinement are the best ways to successfully potty train a Yorkie. When they do it in the right place, treat and major praise. When they do it in the wrong place, ignore it and clean it up. We take 3 steps forward and 1 step back. When Ali makes a mistake (few at 8 months) we clean the carpet and start at square 1. Yorkies can take a while but they are very smart and love praise (and treats) |

My new puppy harley is two months, could he be peeing in his crate at night because it's too big? I'm home all day accidents only happen inside rarely when I turn my back but for the most part he whines when he has to or shows other signs like whining and circling, he didn't start peeing in his crate until today, the first time I had to leave him in there at day time for over 20 minites. I only crate him at night right next to my bed, but Saturdays I have class for two hours. When I wake up I immediately take him out and he only stays in there for 6 hours at night. That's it unless I am taking a shower but that's only 30inites. Husband says his crate is too big for a small dog. But of course I can't listen to what he says, until I hear it from someone else! :-) |

For the most part, I've stopped crate training and made a playpen big enough to fit his bed AND the pee pad and now I don't have to wake up every few hours. That's what worked for me. |

I've opted out of using pee pads for I am here all day long and have the time to do so. I'll set an alarm for every 2&1/2 just to be safe at night time... However last night he woke me up crying like a baby... I took him out..nothing.. I held him for a minute..nothing..gave him some water..nothing!! It was not anything I've ever seen from him before... Do pups cry for no reason like babies when they're young? I know that sounds stupid but I worry about him And don't want anything to happen to him. He cried for 5 hours straight. Then finally my father got here who never even has seen the pup and he shut up and got in his arms instantly. I don't get it? Now my feelings are all hurt like oh he doesn't love me now! Hahaha ... |

My boy Toby is already marking and he's only 4.5 months. Has been since we brought him home at 4 months old. Same as above, he squats to pee and pees alot. three minutes later he's lifting his leg and dribbling on random corners and walls. Our female is only four months older than him, has never been in heat, and was spayed 4 days after Toby came into our home, so I'm pretty sure she wasn't the prompt for this behavior. Im getting him neutered of course and hoping this helps. If not I guess Ill try the belly band. But i figure he'll just rip it off himself the first time he gets a chance. He is quite rowdy. |

Tilly is a tiny girl. She is 9 months old and just now really getting the pottie thing. She has 4 other dogs to show her the way. I keep her crate open with a pottie pad in it at all times. She will run in and piddle and I praise like crazy. She also pees and poops outside when everyone goes out ( 1 to 2 hours). None of my other dogs are pad trained although the other two girls came to me pad trained they both decided that outside with the rest of the pack was the place to pottie. At 4 months a puppy can almost walk and pee at the same time. If a timer is set,it should be set for every hour. Kenzie is only a year I have seen a great difference in both of them around 9 or 10 months. Its like they just suddenly got it and like I said before they have other dogs here to teach them. |

Haven't posted here in a while! Harley got neutered on Saturday, my god am I disappointed! They call at 4 pm and say everything went great and it's time to pick him up, so I do my big sigh of relief and get in the car. 30 SECONDS later they call and say harley had complications during surgery and now he's having episodes and pooping blood please get over here. So I drive over like a mad woman, I walk in and they say they've never seen anything like that after surgery so it must have been something "I let him eat" and gave him an antibiotic for his tummy. The nurse looked at me and said yeah it was really gross he pooped all over the crate and I had to clean it up so I don't know what you fed him but you should stop feeding him that... I felt embarrassed because I haven't had any problems with him having an upset stomache and I wanted to scream at them! Not only did they shun me... They handed him to me and what so you know, he's got the poop matted onto his but and all up in his paws and smells terrible! I said so you cleaned the crate but you couldn't clean him off? He just had surgery for god sake. Couldn't that cause an infection? They said well he's on antibiotics so.. He should be fine. I was so mad! Anyway I got home he did have an upset stomache for the rest of the night now it's 5 days later and haven't had any problems since so I'm convinced it's from the surgery/medicine/& being in their crate for the whole day that day. He's fine now. Oh and not to mention they told me they didn't have any e-cones that would fit him and neither did petsmart and I ended up having to buy one that is fit for a German shephard so it's huge and very awkward on him. Needless to say I'm sick of banfield! On the plus side he's feeling great, about 6 months old and hasn't had a potty accident inside in over a month, and he's healing up just fine from his surgery! So despite the problems we have with the vet I'm so happy my little boy is feeling good :-) thanks for everyone's support! |
