Help please Hi everyone I have just joined the forum I need help as I haven`t had a dog before. 5 days ago I bought a Yorkshire Terrier of a man who is a drug addict, I felt sorry for the little dog as it was so thin, he said he had been leaving the dog food out for 2 days and if the dog hadn`t eaten it by then he would throw the food out, couldn`t believe what he was saying. I wanted to find the dog a good home but have decided to keep him myself, I call him Ben. Problem is he won`t eat anything but fresh boiled chicken, another problem is I have 2 cats which are scared of him and won`t come into the house. Would be very grateful for some advice re, food and cats. |
Royal Canin is a great food and available in UK. Dogs for the most part, love the stuff....you could try him on that, Royal Canin Mini Adult is great....if you want breed specific, you can try the Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier ....the kibble is different shaped in that one....they also have Royal Canin for Toy Breeds.....they have canned Royal Canin too....if your pup wont eat any of the kibble, try mixing some finely diced boiled chicken in with the kibble and see if he likes that.....try just the kibble first, then add the chicken if need be. You may be able to add just a little of the chicken broth over the kibble.....Royal Canin is very palitable and most dogs seem to really like it....give it a try! Good luck with this and welcome to YT! I cant offer anything about the cats.....I have no problem with my dogs and the cat we have.....everyone gets along with the cat! |
I forgot to say after Ben gets used to his new home and new owner, and he is not in choas and turmoil and confusion, he may very well settle right in and start eating and drinking just fine, gloriously thrilled with his new life situation!!! |
I just want to say thank you for caring enough about Ben to give him a better life and seek out advise to try to do the best you can for him!!! Best of luck with him...he is fortunate to have you! |

Have you taken him to the vet for a checkup? That would be a great place to start. Most dogs will take at least a few weeks to actually settle in and for you to see the true personality come out. Welcome to YT :) |

I have been taking him out for walks 4 times a day and he loves it, don`t think he`s been walked before. He is a beautiful little dog. |

Welcome to Yt, thank you for keeping lil Ben, sounds like he didn't have a very good life with his owner. Take advise from all above members, a vet visit is a must. You will find yorkies are an awesome breed and very easy to fall totally in love with them. Good luck and keep us updated. |

Welcome to Yorkie Talk to both you and little Ben. He is very lucky to have you. You sound like you are going to be a very loving yorkie mommy. Would love to see a picture of him. |
Good morning, and welcome to you both!!! :) As previously mentioned, in my opinion Royal Canin kibble is an excellent dried food - Harry's weird and hated the canned though! When he was Ben's age, we tried him on Lily's Kitchen wet food (organic, holistic etc) which he absolutely adored Natural and Organic Dog Food and Cat Food | Lily's Kitchen. He ate that until I decided to home cook for him. We wish you all the very, very best - congratulations on your new little best friend! :D |
