Hyperactive, Overly Friendly Yorkie Girl My sweet 9 month old yorkie is very calm at home, but anytime anyone comes over or I take her for a walk outside (We live in NYC). When our housekeeper comes over, she won't leave her alone, or when delivery men come to the door, she attempts to run out of our apartment to greet them, and when we're out walking on the street in the city she is so excited she attempts to run up to everyone on the street to greet them. I'm thrilled that she's so friendly, BUT... I realize it's a bit too much when it comes to other people. I continually apologize for her over excitement and friendly nature, and I'm sure some people suspect I'm just a bad puppy mom who doesn't manage her puppy's behavior. Any advice? Suggestions? Help? |
She is just a baby, and loves ppl. It is up to you to train her NOT TO JUMP. Many ppl love dogs, but those ppl do not necessarily like to have dogs jump on them. Me I love it, I meet pit bulls that jump on me and they are taller then me lol, I don't mind it because I love all dogs, but, I always say to myself "this person needs to train this dog not to jump on ppl". So it's your job to teach, train her not to jump, which is not a hard thing to teach her.Good luck in your training. |
Thank you! I totally agree with you! BP (Before Puppy, she's my first) I wasn't a fan of dogs jumping on me. That's really the reason I'm concerned. The good news is she's the opposite of aggressive, would never hurt anyone...BUT I need to train her and need to explore the right way to do that. |
I also live in New York and my puppy also does the same things, lol. It's difficult in a big city as well where there's tonssss of people everywhere. This is the reason why I haven't been taking her with me when I go to do regular daily errands because I know no matter where I go there will be A LOT of people around us. I feel like she needs to be trained more before she can go into highly populated places. Sometimes people don't even look where they're going and I'm scared of her getting stepped on as well because she wants to jump on everyone. I'm working on training her to "stay" when people pass by bringing treats outside and if someone passes I say "stay" then give a treat. You can try this too :) |
