potty trained 3 year old yorkie urinating on carpet, tile and leather furniture Today 05:19 PM - permalink mlivesay I have 2 female yorkies. They are both 3 years old. Both have been spayed before a year old. One has started taking estrogen for an overflowing bladder when she lies down. The other has started to urinate in front of us on the carpet. She urinates on the furniture, the tile floor, just everywere. What can cause this and how can I stop it. I have tried rubbing her nose in it. I put her in her pen. I am at wits end. Can anyone help me. |
I'm no expert, but it sounds like you are doing to need to go ba k to the basics - only give limited access ( like an X pen) until she starts going where she is supposed to then gradually give her more freedom. Someone with more experience can weigh in on whether the two pups are influencing each other I the potty issues. I have heard many say that this has happened. Goog luck! |
Is it possible that she has a UTI? Have you thought of taking her to the vet to make sure there is no infection? |
I have a little girl that uses her puppy pads. At night she will make a "short cut" and run in the bathroom and pee on the rug or the foyer and pee on that rug instead of running all the way into the living room to pee on the puppy pad. She has one in the bedroom but doesn't always use that one. I guess once she runs out the room she just finds the first place to relieve herself. She knows she is doing wrong. Just don't know how to make her understand that the rugs are NEVER to be used as a puppy pad. |

Issues with peeing Please allow me to comment. Dogs do so much better with positive reinforcement rather then putting their nose in it. I'm sure your Yorkie wants to please you and is probable embarrassed about what is happening to her. I agree, maybe a bladder infection? If this is new, and it sounds like it is, the estrogen is probable to blame. Have you asked the vet? Sometimes estrogen can increase sizes of cysts that might be causing pressure on her bladder ? If it does wind up being a behavior issue, and she is just upset about something, or stressed, you may consider retraining her with the positive reinforcement. Some dogs, like mine, drinks a fair amount of water, and piddles often. Jazj learned to use her indoor dog toilet when I am not home, and this makes her more comfortable. She didn't want to piddle on the floor, but just was not able to hold it 6 hours. Please let us know what happens. Fingers crossed it is not significant problem |
