Snapping/growling Hi All, I have a 5 year old yorkie girl that has ALWAYS been very nice and submissive, I could always literally take food out of her mouth. I have recently been dog sitting for a friend (a week or 2) and since then she has been very aggressive/snappy, not only towards the other dog but towards me as well. If i get even remotely close to her food she will growl and snap! When she got a chicken bone from the trash, I tried taking it away from her and she SNAPPED AT ME, like a crazy dog!! :S What should I do? It is weird to be scared of my own baby girls :( is it a new thing that she has now "learned"? |
first she senses your fear ...so you have to remain neutral minded and let your fear go. In the end you are the alpha and you need to let her know her actions are not acceptable..time out when she snaps time out. you can say no snapping very stern and put her in time out. she should never have food aggression with you so if she is getting snappy remove the food and try again. over and over until she realizes if she get aggressive no food. hopefully others will chime in and be sure she goes first for everything and the visitor last treats/attention/feeding and so on. |
