Feeding Schedule what's a good feeding schedule for my 9wk old yorkie??? |
you should be free feeding not schedule feeding. I know pups that young are at risk for hypoglycemia. I have never had a pup that young, but others might have some more advice. |
I freshen the food 3 times a day. The Breeder was feeding Iams wet three times so I give fresh wet at wake up, clean bowl around noon, 1:00 and redo and again around 5:00. I also keep a bowl of dry Kibble in another bowl and she eats it in same amounts. We picked her up at 9 1/2 weeks, she's 11 1/2 now and weighed 3.1lbs on the 27th (Vet Exam). We're looking for 7-7 1/2 lbs. I'll be cutting back on wet soon as she has no problem with dry kibble, and will just fill bowl in morn with days ration. |
Thank you for ur help!!!:):):) |
I agree that free feeding is usually recommended for young pups. Keep the food fresh, otherwise it may grow icky or unappetizing during the course of the day. Max was a sturdy 3 pounder at 13 weeks, so I was able to do 3 sort of scheduled kibble feedings a day with a couple of small fresh food treats in between. He didn't gobble it down immediately like he does now. |
Agreeing with everybody else, i think free feeding would be best for a pup that age. |
I've been free feeding Bella dry kibble from 8 weeks of age all the way up to her current age (about 1 1/2 years old) and never had any trouble. I put a half cup out at a time, and I usually have to fill her bowl twice a day, so I never have any waste or spoilage. I have water out all day too, of course. At night, she sleeps in a crate on my nightstand with no food. She's maintaining a good weight--not too fat, not too thin. |
Try royal Canin...it's very small. |
