Potty Training a dog over 1 year old. When I got my Yorkie she was still fairly young and the owners before had been trying to train her to use a puppy pad. This would be the first Yorkie I've ever had and I have no clue how to go about training her to use the bathroom indoors. When I notice my dog sniffing the floor I do pick her up to place her on the puppy pad. But she just doesn't go. She'll wait until you allow her to leave and then go on the hallway or bedroom floor. Any tips on how to potty train her? |
Hi and Welcome to YT! No matter what age, Yorkies can be trained or retrained as needed to use a peepad. Main thing is to confine them to a room with the pad or pads in it (like the kitchen) and keep her in there when you're not able to watch her. Whenever she uses the pad, praise her like she just did the best trick ever, and give her a treat. Also read any other threads on housetraining, they are all similar as this method does work, on puppies and adults. |
U cant leave her in open space, not at all unless you are watching the pup. I would get an expen with room for a bed pad and food water bowls and a little play room Set it up where you want to the pad to stay. slowly over time increase her space of freedom but slowly. |
